I see the buzz word being used online is anti-racist. It's not enough to not be racist , we have to be anti-racist.

My question of the day is why do people have to use some trendy hashtag word all the time?

If people stop being racist, then there is no racism. By being anti racist as it's out, you continue to talk about racism even if in a positive sort of way. As Morgan Freeman said , how to get rid of racism, stop talking about racism. So by doing the opposite and being this new anti-racist, surely that is then going to keep the whole thing alive?

I'm also curious to know how long that has actually been a word. The furthest back I can see is 10 months ago, was it even a word before that? Probably never know that but that's here nor there.
wow, I think you're missing the bigger issue here.

I hear that. Some are just harmlessly nutty, but there is a small demographic that are just as divisive as the people they fight against. It’s akin to calling all Libertarians and Conservatives Nazis. It doesn’t really bring people together or change opinions.

well, you're complaining about the term 'anti racism' and the use of hashtags.
I don't think the semantics that have built up around the movement are as big an issue as the movement it's self.

No it isn't , but that's two separate entities.

Everything has to have a buzzword attached to it now. Whether it's Brexit , coronavirus , anti-racist etc. There has to be that trendy but ultimately pointless word for people to hashtag.

I'm merely saying the idea of being anti-racist may be counter productive to tackling racism as it does the opposite of making it go away. It keeps it alive , when simply 'not being racist' would be a wonderful result.

The idea, which I agree with, is that simply not being racist isn’t enough. As there are inherent bias and institutionalised racism in the system.

There is basically three levels

Racist (d**kheads)
Non-racist (most people would consider themselves this)
Anti-racist

It’s the idea of breaking down systemic racism rather than maintaining the status quo.

The politicians need to be working on a bill as well. They are part of the problem. It’s all well and good to galavant with the protestors but they should actually be doing something about this instead of trying to score points.
