That was a couple weeks ago. Wait till you hear what they got up to this week…

-Passed bill allowing teachers to carry guns in schools.
-Passed bill banning local municipalities from passing red-flag laws.
-Passed bill criminalizing an adult helping a minor get an abortion.
-Passed bill making it illegal for first cousins to marry.
That last one….. could someone explain the controversy?

Updating this to say it's an excellent and necessary read.
I might say much the same things about urban politicians telling voters to blame all the wrong targets, to sweep their own policy failures under the rug. To an extent, this is human political nature.

I think I can explain the result in rural America as simply as this: Baker v. Carr and its progeny established one-person, one-vote and put an end to the broad overrepresentation in Congress of rural communities. Legislation (and court cases) in the ensuing decades took a hard turn against them, as a result. They still enjoy overrepresentation in the Senate, so it could be a lot worse.

It's not surprising they're mad. It is surprising that the education system fails them as badly as it does, when it comes to explaining the result. Reality is they were given a political handout, it was taken away, and no one bothered to tell them. If my kid in high school understands this, there's no reason they shouldn't.
