Lot of things have held for the Democrats this evening. Very good news for the party going into 2024, as some analysts suggest.

Disagree with said analysts regarding Biden. I think the results are very bad news for him. It suggests voters know where they're placing blame. If the voters were punishing Virginia state senators and Beshear for present circumstances, it would mean he still has a year to turn it around and get votes back. If they're not, it suggests something about voters' ability to dissociate state officials from national trends, and a more permanent update of their beliefs re: Biden.

I would also say that the abortion victory in Ohio, while a good thing, probably isn't the best thing for Sherrod Brown. It removes one of the stronger reasons for otherwise Republican voters to select a Democrat for the Senate, in the sense that his judicial appointment power helped shield abortion rights.
This is probably true, but the bigger picture is that this initiative passing is a massive win. Whenever abortion access is actually put to a popular vote, the people come back and say they want these protections. Every. Single. Time.

So any time a red state that manages to get one of these on the ballot and outmaneuver their elected officials who fight tooth and nail to deny them those rights it has to been seen as a good thing, even if there ends up being some political collateral damage. Ohio is the seventh most populous state in the country and the US is a better, safer place for women this morning because of their vote yesterday.

It's only a bad thing for Biden if a moderate Republican candidate somehow survives the primary and is running against him.

I still think what we are seeing is a rejection of Trumpism and MAGA. If Trump is the nominee, Biden still beats him. All these polls where you see Trump above Biden comes down to many Democrats wishing Biden doesn't run, and being honest about that. Trump people are gonna Trump, regardless.

If the choice is simply Biden vs Trump, regardless of Biden's "popularity" people will still vote against Trump

Is this ideal? No.

But it's reality

In a local election here in Virginia, Anton Scalia's daughter lost her election to school board in Albemarle county (where Charlottesville is located). She pulled her kids out of public school but still, puzzlingly, wanted a say in public school regulations. She can go have sex with herself into obscurity...
He sounds like a mob boss.

Scalia's kid in Charlottesville would be a big uphill sled in the best of times.

kinda acted like one too!
Weirdly him and RBG were quite close i think.
They were very close and it was a genuine friendship between them (which included the spouses as well). An excellent example for our time imo.
I know one of the Scalias quite well— we are in the same social circle and presented at several conferences together. They are wonderful people

Seems like a good way to end up in the clink after you fail to conduct a background check and someone not permitted to purchase a gun does something with it.

Manchin is not standing for re-election, so its hard to see that seat ending up anywhere other that Jim Justice's hands.
