And that's more or less the state of play. There's a small minority that will not play ball with the Democrats on Ukraine and spending cuts, a different, larger minority that will not seat someone who will pick a shutdown fight, and a majority that just wants someone in the chair and regular order.
The basic problem is that the safe seats the fire-eaters have more or less render them bulletproof until such time as right-wing media starts advocating governance over obstructionism.

We'll know it's bad once the president directs the armed forces to tear the roof off that section of the Capitol until they pick somebody. Not that this stopped the College of Cardinals from taking another year and a half.
