Looks like Jordan has leaked a couple more votes at the midpoint. Supposedly the 40 or so holdouts more or less drew straws on who would vote in opposition when.

I need one of these emotes for the above post: 🙄

194 Jordan, 210 Jeffries, 25 to others, six not voting. McHenry was amusingly embarrassed by wild Democratic cheering when he announced he received six votes.

Sooner or later, the Republicans will have to realize that McHenry is the only person who can get 218, and that it will have to happen with Democratic votes.

With absences they only needed 214 today - think it unlikely but if a few Jordan “supporters” go home over the weekend and they had another vote Jeffries might get it!

If it was Pelosi running the show there would never be a vote that could do it but she, unlike Jordan, can count.

Has it ever happened that the Speaker was from the minority party since the start of the two party hegemony?

Nope.

McHenry can count, so he'll just recess them if the quorum numbers don't work.

Wow. A majority of Republicans voted Jordan down behind closed doors. Scalise sent them all home.

If he couldn’t win at least he can claim to be a victim.

“Most popular” my arse, he is generally seen as a bully and idiot and all the death threats and intimidation will have only hardened that perception. Although tbf he is probably still more popular than Matt Gaetz.

Yeah, he's far from the most popular. The Dems like and respect McHenry. Can't say the same about Jordan or Gaetz.

The one thing I can say with certainty is that Santos is the least popular member of the House. Probably the least popular member of Congress overall, though Cruz does give him a run for his money. Al Franken probably has the best quote from a member of Congress this century. "I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz."
