There's internal logic, which is, "Nobody should be spending a dime of your paycheck except you." There's also the casual racism, of course.

What this ignores is history. If you're against things like a standing army, antitrust legislation, retirement health care, student loans, some level of regulation on investment exchanges, insurance on your bank deposits, clean air, clean water, knowing what's in the food you eat and the medicine you take, occupational safety standards and roads without bomb-sized pothole craters...then sure, you can keep your whole paycheck. If you like those things, well, the federal government provides those things. Nobody else will if they don't, and they need taxes to operate.

What's concerning isn't so much him as a candidate as the fact that people listen to him. It's like people don't know that Lake Erie was once regularly on fire, and have no idea who Upton Sinclair was.

And the small detail that over 1.9M people voted for him.

He’s only slightly more coherent than this guy who finds his way onto the ballot every time we have a gubernatorial race in TN, but at least nobody votes for him.

Right. There are guys like that all over the country - in state legislatures, local government and perpetually tilting at windmills pursuing higher offices than that. We've even had House members like that, even before the most recent crop. Look up some of the stuff Jim Traficant said, before the Feds tossed him in the clink for bribery and other charges. It's worth your time.

Some are more unintentionally entertaining than others. They're like films that are so bad, they're good. Under normal circumstances, they don't become the candidate of a major party for something like the Senate or a governor's chair, which tells us that these are not normal times we're living in.

Ah. Remember watching the Traficant hearings (Ethics Committee) during my university days. Very entertaining
