Sad to hear. Should lead to an interesting conversation about conservative leadership then and now. The contrast between Dole's courage in WWII and McCarthy's spinelessness, or Dole's decency and sense of fairness against McConnell's adversarial politics, is just night and day.

In what seems a lifetime ago, I wrote to Dole's office asking if they could square his millions in political donations from Archer Daniels Midland and the Kochs and fealty to their political goals with his public pronouncements in support of small family farms. Someone from his office wrote me back in less than polite terms that I was simply a pointy-headed librul. I guess they missed the part where I wrote my family has been in continuous farming operation in this country since before the Revolution.

Oh, well.

Dole was a genial warrior for the most part. Didn't care for most of his positions but he wasn't a strident, culture-war loony a la his contemporary Pat Buchanan and Dole called Buchanan on it. Sure wish he'd have done the same with Trump.

I'll believe it. Yesterday's congressional interns that wrote those letters are today's members of Congress. To be honest, it's a stain on the legacy of the members of Dole's generation that they tolerated those behaviors. Of course, if you look back to some footage from Biden's 1988 presidential run, you'll see that he was a lot more divisive and combative back then when dealing with the media, and Tip O'Neill back then was Tip O'Neill. It's easy to forget that civility was in decline on both sides of the aisle when Limbaugh was as prominent, and as prominent an influence, as he was.

I think asking a man in his nineties to fight against the culture wars is a pretty big ask. I would agree that I wish he had said more than he did.

It's motivation, mate.

Moreso than with our beloved football club, there's something specific we can do to stop this debacle, this travesty.
can I turn off after 27 months and hope the GOP have gone away?

I will read it, and thank god it doesn't factor in to things here in MA too much. (and our milquetoast red governor isn't running again)
But I can see the national importance where you are.

As usual, if Crenshaw is opening his mouth he's telling half-truths to his audience for his own benefit.

Adam Kinzinger doesn't have a record of voting with Trump moreso than most members of the Freedom Caucus and it's not close to 99% of the time. I'm guessing Dan Crenshaw considers himself a legislator yet he's not sponsored a single bill that has been passed into law. He is, however, a performance artist and quite proud of it when not in bipolar mode.
