The majority of them as much as I loathe them always try backing down. Only the hardcore Muppets close to Trump seem to double down. Those are genuinly the guys with nothing to lose.
The lesser known members and the ones who can easily lose their seat or position always try a spin.

That he tried to play it off at all. That's about as clear cut as you can get. But I've been to Luray. I have a customer there I've met a bunch. That mayor guy fits in perfectly with the majority of the ones I've met there.
Yeah by saying it was a joke and he learned a lesson is sort of what spin is. As poor as it is. But that's exactly what you get from them. Those that don't double down spin it or simply ignore the criticism other to say sorry without meaning it.
Hes a joke and should quit. But I suspect he won't becuase in his words its a joke and he's sorry. Lesson learned. Like it was a teachable moment or something.
