It's an interesting question.

The majority of voters in places like that have literally never heard a message like hers. Red States are terribly served by Republican government, which in large part explains why they are full of poor people who live in third-world conditions. They are obviously not inclined to support Democrats who offer 85% of the Republican economic agenda, while also seeming to sneer at them for not knowing who Thomas Friedman or Lena Dunham or Emma Sulkowicz is.

I suspect her message might actually cost the Democrats their cherised rich Purple voters - like Chuck Schumer's imaginary Philadelphia suburbanites (who in any case still mostly voted for Trump) - but that it would actually do quite well for them in places like Louisiana, or rural Oklahoma, or West Virginia (which reliably voted Democrat well into the 1990s). A lot of the teachers out on strike were Trump voters. Of course, it remains to be seen... but it not like going with the same vapid centrism yet again is going to produce better results this time either.

Yea, I agree, centrist mush will win nothing, but I've never seen anything like the venom right wing republicans have for the word 'socialism', they head straight for Marx, Stalin and gulags. It took a herculean effort to get McCarthyism up and running but once it's power was seen, no republican was about to back off. Generations now are indoctrinated in to thinking that God and greed are one and the same.
This labor day, there'll be vast swaths of this country relying on government subsidies while denouncing democratic socialism because some pastor with a private jet has convinced them it's the devils work.

What in the name of god is Kennedy doing?

Although to be fair, he’s sided with the conservative judges more often than not lately.

yea, this from the Guardian
McConnell, for his part, has said any supreme court vacancy this term would be dealt with expeditiously and before the midterm elections.

“It would be a top priority,” he told NPR last week.

“If we get a vacancy on the supreme court this year, we’ll deal with it.”
I hope the dems kick up hell over this double standard, doubt they will, even if they could, I'd have no idea what they'll do.

It is great news. New York Democrats are as corrupt and disinterested as anyone anywhere in the country. They need to be destroyed.

But the real test will be whether candidates like her can win in Red States, not just in districts where hell will freeze and dinosaurs reinherit the earth before a Republican could ever win.

They certainly couldn't do much worse than the apologetic corporate oafs or veterans-for-hire that the Democrats tend to fling against the wall in these places.

Fox News et al will be falling over themselves to spin her background as "Identity Politics" gone mad, even though her policies and public remarks are almost entirely class- and economy-focused.

Unashamedly left-wing candidates like her, who promote a strong economic agenda against the Democratic Party, have a message that the Koch Brothers et al won't want West Virginians to hear.

If they are going to win, she (or at least the politics she represents) is how they will win.

This idea that you can just write off almost all of Trumps support as irrevocably lost is both daft and wrong - most of them have been screwed over almost as much as everyone else, thats why their life expectancy has been going down. The policy positions she advocates will reach out to them - and everyone else in the same position, irrespective of race - and they would win the next election in a landslide.
