The Conservative government defunded the police across Britain. What happened was a rise in crime, and espcially in Labour areas where the cuts were felt the most.
The same people who argued against this, would be the same people talking about defunding the police to "solve problems".
It's called hypocrisy.
There's a big difference in how police in the UK and the US operate.
You'd probably be unhappy if your tax dollars were going to arm the UK police to the teeth.
Give them equipment the UK army probably don't have access to and then send them out to direct traffic around a pot hole.
My neighbor is one of those people who has a habit of calling the cops at a drop of the hat.
Last week there was two homeless guys sitting on the step across from our houses, one in a wheelchair at about 3pm. They were drunk but weren't bothering anyone. She called to report loitering and within a minute there was three cop cruisers with about 6 armed police all trying to figure out what to do. Eventually an ambulance was called because they couldn't get the guy in the wheel chair in to the cruiser. That, of course, came with another cruiser.
So there you are, one report for two drunk lads loitering, resulted in eight armed cops who were on the scene for about an hour.
In another case, a house up the street, for sale, was empty. The grown son, had used his key to get back in and someone reported a break in. The guy has mental issues and the cops scared him in to hiding, (he also had a police record), it took no time till cops were crouching behind cars with guns drawn, they had covered every angle of the house with military precision. The street was obviously closed down. Eventually a family member arrived and calmed the situation down.
Thats the last two times ive seen cops on our street, both in the last month.
People arent looking for no cops, just de-escalate their 'mini army for noisy neighbors' vibe.
Oh and yea, they give people of color a far harder time.
