You've missed the point, im not trying to claim ANTIFA are angels or good guys.
Andy NGO claims to be a neutral objective journalist but only ever criticises the left and plays down right wing violence even though its statistically far more prevalent and widespread than far left violence. He's the textbook definition of a grifter, just look at this twitter feed.
He went there with sole intention of antagonising people who already hate him and ANTIFA stupidly (and predictably) gave him exactly what he was hoping for.
I'm not sure he really claims neutrality. He's not exactly a GOP sycophant or anything but his libertarian/conservative streak isn't a secret.
Honestly I don't mind conceding that in a vacuum, he played with fire and got burned. If he was an everyday citizen (not media) who went to an event with violent extremist leftists, I'd say "well, that was kind of stupid to do, but it's still a newsworthy political attack that won't get mainstream attention." But I don't think we want an environment where media critical of ANTIFA can't report on their activities.
In an environment where we're beaten over the head with the "far right threat" and pissant kids in MAGA hats are treated like domestic terrorists, ANTIFA can run wild in Portland while the police knowingly and intentionally don't interfere and our media will largely ignore genuine violence that results. And if someone like Ngo tries to disrupt that, well, he should have stayed home?
There wouldn't be very many "playing with fire" remarks by blue-checked-twitter types if it was a gay asian man who had gotten beaten up at a pro-Trump protest. I think you'd have to agree, right?
