Another Day in the USA
https://www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2019/may/another-day-in-the-usa

Grass Valley is a small town in the California Sierra Nevadas, and every year the Grass Valley Charter School Foundation holds a fundraising fair, the Blue Marble Jubilee, that celebrates planet Earth with folk music and activities for children, such as making paper butterflies and egg carton caterpillars. This year’s Jubilee was scheduled for 11 May.

Unrelated to Grass Valley – or only seemingly unrelated – there’s yet another cute meme circulating on Twitter: #5JobsIveHad. And fired FBI director James Comey, in an oddly jocular moment, has tweeted in with his five:

Comey is known, in certain corners of the internet, as a primary force in the deep state conspiracy that is attempting to wreak havoc and overthrow the Trump administration. Besides its visible machinations in Washington, it is said to have orchestrated a series of ‘false flag’ operations: the mass shootings and violent neo-Nazi rallies where provocateurs and assassins are paid by George Soros and innocent white nationalists are blamed.

The truth-seekers swiftly decoded Comey’s tweet as a message to his troops to instigate another bloodbath: #5JobsIveHad = JIHAD. There will be five acts of jihad, and the first of them is signalled by the first initials of Comey’s jobs: GVCSF, Grass Valley Charter School Foundation. As further evidence, Comey’s tweet was sent at 8.28 a.m., only three minutes after the time the first plane crashed into the Twin Towers on 9/11.

Comey, who lives in Virginia, somehow knew to choose this little family festival in the Sierra Nevadas as a target, but his plan has been thwarted. There will be no Blue Marble Jubilee this year. The organisers, who have been flooded with warnings and offers of protection, have been forced to cancel. As they meekly explained: ‘In the current social and political climate, schools and communities must take into consideration matters never before imagined.’

Holy s____. We are in Level 10 crazy-land.

The abortion “debate” is just revolting. The rhetoric from the right is so incredibly vile and disingenuous.
I'm not sure I'll ever understand why someone would vote republican.
It really is incredible. I mean I’m no fan of the Conservative Party in the U.K., but the way the GOP seems to go out of its way to behave like cartoon villains is absolutely wild.

“Republicans: We want to shrink government down small enough that it can fit inside your bedroom and womb”

The Far Right thread is locked, so I'm putting this here. A very scary read, particularly if you are a parent. But it is also excellent and compelling...

What Happened After My 13-Year-Old Son Joined the Alt-Right

A Washington family's nightmare year.

I understand some think abortion is a bad idea but the way they go about it is just terrible. A) they don't give a flying feck about the kid after it's born B) it's largely enacted by men, C) even if they are doing it for their constituents, theres nothing in the bible that says one way or another on it. It's like they are making the rules up as they go........huh, it's exactly like that.

It is even worse than that as Republicans actively oppose sex education or access to birth control to avoid unwanted pregnancies in the first place plus underfund healthcare to poor pregnant mothers and block making maternity pay/time off as standard.

If you were deliberately wanting to increase the number of women pregnant and then make their own and their babies health as bad as possible I am honestly not quite sure how much more you’d be able to do than Republicans routinely advocate for.

There was some reporting that Kolfage had a bit of a sketchy past history with crowdfunding so moving onto outright fraud, whilst incredibly stupid particularly with such a high profile case, would not be entirely surprising if that article turns out to be true.
BuzzFeed looked into Kolfage’s previous crowdfunding efforts, which included an initiative to mentor wounded veterans at military hospitals — among them Walter Reed and Brooke Army Medical Center. He raised thousands for the project, according to BuzzFeed, but spokespersons for the medical facilities told the outlet they have no record of him working at the hospitals or donating money.

Asked about the story in January, Kolfage told The Post that BuzzFeed “100 percent lied” and had fabricated the investigation to slander him. He said the money was raised to cover his travel expenses, and that he only used them for that purpose.

According to former employees and public records including website archives, Nevada business registrations and property records, Kolfage has repeatedly created GoFundMe campaigns and published inflammatory fake news articles, pushing them both from websites that he sought to hide behind shell companies and false identities, in part to harvest email addresses. Those addresses were then used to push people back to Kolfage’s websites, to sell a brand of coffee he owns, or to be stockpiled for future use by conservative campaigns.

However it seems like he brought the yacht well before the Go Fund the Wall scheme. Still very skeptical that the funds are eventually spent on a wall but guess we’ll see!

It's possible he still owed on the boat. Means nothing that it was built in 2017 really. Same goes for anything you purchase that big really.

Even still.

If he has nothing to hide why not answer those asking where the money is and when it will be spent on a wall. Or at least give people a proposal or a plan etc...

As Everton fans we all know about missing money and pipe dreams on large projects (new stadium) right? haha!

Which is really mad, considering the 3 states with the highest rate of STD's and teen pregnancies are massive red states.

Alabama and Tennessee are way out in front on those numbers too. If you google it it will give you the entire list.
