Would any of our Canandian posters be kind enough to offer me a link for a good description of wtf is going on North of the border and its implications?

SNC-Lavalin, one of a handful of bloated and corrupt firms on which the economy of Quebec depends (hence the bloat and corruption) was facing prosecution for its many outrages. It is pretty likely that Trudeau intervened by pressuring the Justice Minister/Attorney General to take it easy on SNC Lavalin, whereupon she resigned.

This hits a uniquely Canadian nerve because Anglos, especially in the West, are deeply resentful of Quebec and its perceived corruption and special treatment (even though the oil industry in Alberta or the Toronto/Vancouver real estate markets are run more or less the same way). On the other hand, absent the same sort of boosts from the federal government that Alberta takes for granted, Quebec would have left long ago - hence Trudeau's concern.

Trudeau is far less popular in Canada than overseas; young people are mostly indifferent, and he's hated with great passion by pockets of middle-aged surbanites and small towners, especially out West (here, largely because of his father). He is subject to the same sort of chud-bait vitriol and conspiracy (did you know that he is actually Fidel Castro's son?) that has American Trumplings frothed into a perpetual lather.

This story also reinforces a deeply-cherished sense of Western alienation (ie: anything further west than Sudbury but east of the Rockies), and a sense that Canada is essentially run behind closed doors by a small network of elite chums (which is mostly true, though the West is indulged more than anyone).

The implications are that the #resistance should start scouting for a new online boyfriend

Edit: oh, you wanted a link

The Globe has been driving the coverage so far, so they are as good as anything: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/pol...ould-testimony-snc-lavalin-trudeau-explainer/
