"Whatever Americans were hoping for when they elected Donald Trump president in 2016, it’s a fair bet that it didn’t include shoveling billions of dollars of American taxpayer money to foreign companies to build white-elephant factories. But it looks as if that is what’s happening in Wisconsin. After Trump suggested that a piece of land in southeastern Wisconsin would be a great place for a factory back in 2017, Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn offered to build it.
There was just one catch — the state would have to pay Foxconn a lot of money. About $4.5 billion to be exact. Since the state already has very low tax rates for manufacturers, much of this subsidy will be paid directly in cash rather than as tax credits.

This is a staggering amount of money — about $1,800 per Wisconsin taxpayer — for a factory like this. The Foxconn plant will initially employ 3,000 workers, at a salary of about $54,000 a person. Even if the factory eventually increases its employment to 13,000 — as Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has promised that it will — the cost per job created would be about $346,000. If the number of jobs turns out to be lower, the cost per job will be higher. Estimates that the state could break even on its investment by 2043 are almost certainly overoptimistic."

LOL entry level workers at GM/Ford/Chrysler make only $16-18/hr these days and they are union (get adimittedly good benefits tho). This isn't the 70s anymore, factory workers don't make @#$%. Assuming its ever built once the enconomy cools they'll get amazon warehouse wages. Also they are making large screen LCDs, lol Mexico and China already make them (also electronic companies are pulling out of Mexico because lol even Mexicans make too much money). Foxconn even knows this after all they build them in China. They probably thought they'd make nice w/ the US and insulate themselves from a trade war plus they got a ton of money thrown at them. However even if there is a full blown trade war, the tariffs aren't going to offset production costs. So Foxconn is pulling out. Only they are trying to do it in a way where they can say Wisconsin didn't fullfill their promices so they can sue for the monies. And if Wisconsin meets all the requirements, they'll just cry financial hardship (you don't think Foxconn didn't sign a contract riddled w/ favorable loopholes do you?) and build a miniscule factory which might stay open for a decade or so.

I suppose I probably feel the same. But if there were people whose death I WOULD celebrate, he’d definitely be high on the list.
 
In the tit-for-tat world of legislative one-upmanship, look soon for constitutional amendment ideas like getting rid of lame duck sessions.....or direct voter approval of all laws passed during a lame duck session.......or elimination of all legislatures and monthly direct elections for all laws......or.....or.....or some other stupid idea to protect us from ourselves.

Let's never underestimate our ability to hurt ourselves.
