Pretty good results for R's and Trump especially. D's might have had their blue wave without insane Kavanaugh campaign.
That is certainly one way to look at it, I guess.

I'm not sure what others were expecting, but I'd call flipping the House (while taking back suburban educated voters, particularly women), making unwinnable Senate races closer than expected, getting an openly gay governor, and soundly winning the popular vote a blue wave in some form.

It certainly wasn't a mandate for the current president.

Good news, the way that Repulicans lied about their support for pre-existing conditions coverage and these voter led expansions of Medicare even in red states signal that healthcare is an area they are very vulnerable on.
“Voters in Idaho, Nebraska and Utah on Tuesday were on track to approve what their Republican-led legislatures repeatedly would not: free or low-cost health coverage for most poor adults through an expansion of their Medicaid programs,” the New York Times reports.

There is a real chance that the economy doesn't work for them in the next two years either. The growth to this point is unsustainable and at the very least may slow down. A true recession is a possibility as well. If that is what they want to hang their hats on it could be problematic.
Exactly. Trump is taking last night as some big victory for him.

The reality is, he lost control of the house in a historically good economy (albeit how much of that is down to him is up for debate). If that doesn't continue for the next two years... well...

I’m expecting the tariffs to really start to hit hard as well if there isn’t a deal reached. Soybean farmers might give Trump a pass for one harvest, especially with the handouts to cushion the blow somewhat, but I doubt they will stomach two.

It’ll be fine. People will lose their livelihoods but as long as they continue to “own the libs” everything will be alright

This just happened in Pennsylvania. We had crazy gerrymandered districts that our state supreme court threw out, and the 2018 election was based on a new map. This needs to happen everywhere.

NC got a new map. Didn't help much. In a leans red state, 3 house seats were held by democrats. After the new districts, we still have 3 albeit one race is still not decided (GOP currently leading).

It wasn't, but then again he is still getting almost half of the country to vote for his candidates and the road to victory does not follow down a path of yet more demographically inspired campaigns or piling up votes among surburban educated voters.

If the Democrats do not spend the next few months asking serious questions of why they got this result and making some severe changes then they will deserve what will happen in 2020.
