I remember this being a pretty big result for us at the time.

Me and my dad avoided the results all day, so we could watch it "live" on MOTD. We were last on, so both assumed it had been another Walter Smith 0-0 special. Until to our complete surprise, Gary Naysmith bags a last minute winner. Woke the house up dancing around the living room.

Everton: Gerrard, Weir, Unsworth, Nyarko, Campbell, Hughes, Pembridge, Naysmith, Gravesen, Xavier, Tal. Subs: Ball, Simonsen, Gemmill, Moore, Cadamarteri.

Good god.

I remember him scoring late at Bradford, that stand behind the goal was shocking, the front rows all on the same level, terrible, I went and stood at the back by the stairs, one of the worse views ever had at a premier league game, great celebrations thou when he scored!

Securing us a place in Europe in 07 with one of his last touches for us in a 3-0 win against Portsmouth. And the early gallant performances that led to comparisons with Roberto Carlos in some quarters...

From what I recall, we signed him and David Weir close together, both from Hearts for less than £1.6m combined, which was a bargain.

Naismith was a decent player while he was here, always gave his all & had a decent left foot, but just lacked a bit of pace.

I remember him getting a brilliant assist for Campbell in his debut away to Newcastle, cross/pass behind the defence late on and I think we won 1-0. Think he had only been on a few mins as well. I remember thinking we had unearthed a gem.

Scored a cracking free kick away to Tottenham once. Apart from that, utter poo.

He scored an amazing free kick to make it 3-0 to Everton against Tottenham at Goodison one year. I remember it well as it was the last match I went to see at goodison. I went with my best mate in Liverpool who supports Tottenham, he was understandably gutted by the result as he was fully expecting a win against an utterly mince Everton side.

I forget the year... mid 90s.

A forgettable period in our history
