We definitely sold Beardsley 2 seasons to early to Newcastle(I think)

He was very much a winner as well. If you watch Grandstand from cup final day, they speak to the Everton players on the pitch before kick off. Ray Stubbs, as well as some of our players, were talking about how great it was to play in a cup final but Gary Ablett looked very relaxed and commented on how he wanted to win the cup. I’m sure he said something similar in another interview as well:

Little before my time, that’s one for my dad!

Was a great bloke and a great player and i was gutted when he passed away. Used to love watching him play, give it his all as most players did in that era and it never mattered as much back then if they came across the park as things were a lot more evenly balanced, neither team was miles ahead of the other like now.

Solid player, always preferred him at left back rather than centre half. I read his autobiography and he mentioned about how much of a torrid time he had off Liverpool fans in his latter days there and he enjoyed his football more when playing for us.

46 is no age. RIP Gary.

Thought Ablett was great for us. Still one of my favourite memories is him picking up his fa cup winners medal off one of the Royal family, boots round his neck, shouting to his mate "alright Toe, I'll see ya later" lol
