My worry is how much is he going to play over the next 18 months

Hard to say for this season, but there'll be two transfer windows between now and the main guts of 2017/18 so I doubt he'll get massive amounts of game time next season.

He still has a role to play though. His very recent form has been poor and that's clouding peoples judgements.

There is only 2 reasons I can see for the extension. 1) his professionalism for the younger players i.e. how to conduct yourself; 2) he maybe looking at the coaching side of things behind the scenes to see if it fits.

If he's been given a contract to be a part of the first team setup then it's quite disturbing

Hopefully after January he will be 3rd/4th choice at best and spends the next year tutoring Davies and any of the other younger lads who get around the squad.

Knew at HT as soon as he came on we would revert to sitting deeper, didn't expect us to fall apart quite that much but gives further evidence of why we are struggling so badly, Gueye is having to do the work of 3 players in midfield the lad needs help.

He's had a good career and can still offer something around the training ground and dressing room but at 35 look at every other team in this league and none of them rely on players at this age at this level its just not possible in such an energetic position.

That was the worst I've seen him. He came on late in the game and looked slower than everyone else anyway. I'm a big fan usually but he did literally nothing right tonight, but I will say he wasn't helped by the entire team bailing out on putting any effort in whatsoever in the second half.

Does not work in Koeman's system at all. If we can't keep possession, we will invite pressure the whole game because we will almost always lose the midfield battle with him in the team. He can't cover ground quickly enough. If we could learn to keep possession of the damned ball, he wouldn't be a liability.

People saying it was the wrong game for him and he'll struggle in high intensity games..... Erm. .. that what would be every single game in the premier league then....
More or less true but I do think he could be useful in games at home vs teams that sit deep because he has a bit more to his game than McCarthy and coming on late to hold leads. Wouldn't start him vs Leicester though as they are another team that is very quick

Edit: Ideally we sign a long term replacement in January who will take Barry's place after AFCON

Won't slate him but it's fair to say he is not keeping up with the pace of the EPL. Koeman sticking with him so long has been, I have no doubt, one of the causes of our poor run.

Roque Mesa in. Barry bench/squad player. Would do a job in the changing rooms still, don't lash him out the squad altogether, just use him for his experience etc.

Shouldn't be anywhere near the XI.
