Rather than replace a player who's losing qualities daily with age we simply extend his contract? This is why we never progress
Rather than buy younger players who will eventually replace players we have we just let them get older and older and then end up with inadequate panic replacements due to lack of money
Ideally players should be sold once they start getting past their peak and replaced with younger talent.
I don't understand why we have extended his deal when we are apparently aiming for the top four
Because he's a vastly experienced player who is still capable of being our best midfielder on his day.
He can be phased out slowly but having a player like him during a 'transitional' period (for lack of a better word) is vital.
We can't get money for him if he moves on but he can definitely be of use for the rest of the season and heading into next.
It's called common sense. Something many football fans seem to lack.
