Rather than replace a player who's losing qualities daily with age we simply extend his contract? This is why we never progress

Rather than buy younger players who will eventually replace players we have we just let them get older and older and then end up with inadequate panic replacements due to lack of money

Ideally players should be sold once they start getting past their peak and replaced with younger talent.

I don't understand why we have extended his deal when we are apparently aiming for the top four

Because he's a vastly experienced player who is still capable of being our best midfielder on his day.

He can be phased out slowly but having a player like him during a 'transitional' period (for lack of a better word) is vital.

We can't get money for him if he moves on but he can definitely be of use for the rest of the season and heading into next.

It's called common sense. Something many football fans seem to lack.

Liverpools midfield has a lot more energy than Arsenals so i really dont want Barry coming back in, however, if we do get into the position of being in the lead come the 75th min onwards, he's the perfect player to come on and slow the game down completely.
Exactly, almost word for word what I said to my dad yesterday. Great option to have for that job.

Not cut out at this level anymore, wouldn't get into any Top6 side and should not play every week, if he plays tonight we can class Koeman as a stubborn manager who is out of his depth as him playing would be a disaster and probably cost us the game.

...as with the CB pairing I'm not overly bothered who plays CM. Barry has plenty of big game experienced and won't be fazed. He's never been able to run so it won't make any difference at this stage, what he has is nouse.

Hi mate, top 6 CMs atm are:

Matic
Gundogan
Can* possible debate on this one
Ramsey
Dembele
would you rank Barry above any of these?

Bottom line is he is mediocre add in with the fact he can't run makes his dire performances vs Chelsea Saints Bournemouth Watford Burnley (Minus a ok pass that nobody would of talked about if Keeper was half decent) standard this season.

Compare that to the energy Mccarthy brings and it is a no brainier for him not to start.

Literally nothing you say had any relevance or logic you odd little man.

How can he be useful next year when he's already poor now? You lack common sense

Surely letting him leave is better to free up wages for a better player

Something you seem to lack
