Gareth Barry

Having just sat through the 90 minutes properly it's easy to say that Barry was absolutely outstanding yesterday.

...yep, he immediately got my MoM nomination. He genuinely laid the foundation for the victory, as I said before the game he works in those areas where City (Silva and De Bruyne) are so effective. He's so classy that much of what he does goes under the radar.

I still wouldn't start him every week. And don't think we will. But certain games need to be picked for him, and him picked for them.

...absolutely. His game time will diminish but he will know that. I'm sure RK wants more energy in there but it's a testament to his ability that the manager still picks him. He really doesn't deserve the vitriol he gets on here.

Barry made 5 or 6 interceptions/tackles in key areas yesterday, just within the first 25 minutes. His impact was key to keeping us in the game.

He's past it though...
Made 4 tackles and 3 interceptions in his 70 minutes according to WhoScored, with a couple clearances and blocked shots to boot.

The rest of midfield Davies, Barkley, McCarthy, Schneiderlin, Coleman and Baines made only a combined 7 and 3 over the full 90.....

Xabi Alonso retires. Another midfielder Grandad is clearly better than. Lampard Gerrard Alonso Scholes Xavi all felt they could no longer perform at the required level. Not our Gareth though, he's obviously got something all of them don't to be even older, still first team, and get a new contract. Wow.

Lets not get carried away here, he had a good game on Sunday, but City were hardly mobile themselves in the centre of the park with Zabeletta and Toure. Plus Tom Davies can make anyone look good.

One good game against his old club and an ageing midfield, does not make a season, and he's been shocking for most of this season, always arriving late to everything. I fully expect and hope that Schneiderlin replaces him sooner rather than later.

"its our 3rd match this week, why is Barry playing all 270 minutes" is the new Osman on the wing.

He's almost always been excellent after a decent break. The fact that he's playing at all is pretty amazing so it's maddening that we start running him into the ground when its obvious that his performances suffer when he plays too much.
