Gareth Barry

Gareth Barry is an uninspiring player. When was the last time he did something to inspire the team (and i dont mean giving away a foul after letting his man go...again)?

He's very similar to Neville in that when playing centre midfield he acts as if he's a talisman and the midfield general but absolutely never stamps his authority on a game nor dominates the opposition. The only thing missing is the pointing which is replaced by gamesmanship.

He has zero pace so is reliant on snidey challenges or else hes caught out by any runner as can be seen in pretty much every single game. Remove his dirty play and gamesmanship and what do you have, well Tobias Linderoth springs to mind...

His passing is his greatest asset, not dissimilar to Vinny Samways he can pick a pass...of course its never a danger to the opposition so he is basically an average un-insightful non-playmaker.

He cant cover runners
He cant dictate play nor be a playmaker
Hes not box to box
Hes not a talisman nor inspirational

Hes just an average player whose adept at sneaky fouls and gamesmanship a bit like an ageing Did Hamman.

His positional play is great but sadly he hasnt the skillset to do anything with it.

Hes never getting in a traditional top 6 team.

Oh Zat, with the magic of Opta, I am going to absolutely tear you apart here.

I am sorry, in advance.

OK @Zatara - here's the first one.

Please, any doubters please feel free to view at your convenience...

This shows he was the fastest player on average in our side vs WBA, and covered the most distance...

What did Zat say?

The second image is WBA's stats. As you can see, Barry covered the second most distance in the game.

So actually, he is both box to box, and he covers...

As said below, I've got rid of the images but here's the key facts:

- Barry, on average, was the quickest player in our side vs WBA.
- He covered the most ground in our side (11.26km) The next was the 'lazy' Barkley (11.07km)
- Barry covered the second-most ground of any player in the game. The only player who covered more was Dawson (11.47km)
- Barry had over 100 touches

That Stekelenburg is slow, get rid

@Zatara

I have now deleted said images just in case - a stupid move on my part for reasons too boring to go into.

I also have touchmaps, heatmaps and avrage position that prove Barry was pretty much running the show.

I can assure you that they are the same for Spurs.

:)

We didnt beat WBA as Barry was "running the show". Have you got a stat showing how many times he let runners onto Mori? 3times at least i saw them go past while he just stood there.

Spurs 2nd half at least twice as well...

Obviously I don't know the exact moments you're talking about but I don't think it's Barry's fault that Funes Mori was bullied by Rondon and that was basically the extent of the dangerous West Brom attacks. It's not like they were constantly turning and running at our backline. In fact I can't remember that happening a single time. The dangerous moments came when the ball was played over Gueye and Barry

Tbh i dont remember either but it wasnt rondon...opposition centre mids run past him and he doesnt pick them up.

The 2 DMs...really lol
They didn't play any other central midfielders. They had Berahino and Rondon up top and Gardner and Phillips on the wings. Maybe it was Gardner then. I know he regularly troubles backlines with his forward running.

The funny thing is their are definitely times when your criticisms of Barry have a bit of merit. A good time to come back would be after we play City because Silva regularly gives him the run around. But the week after Barry scores the winner and is arguably MotM isn't really the time to say he should be dropped from the team.

I'm not even wumming...its the last two games he just lets them past him and then goes trotting back.

I know you aren't wumming mate. I just don't see what you're talking about. Anyway we have conceded zero goals through the middle this season so get used to Gueye and Barry as the two in defensive midfield

I'll have a look Zat.

But the point is that you were talking nonsense about him.

He's one of our best players. Easily. Age is irrelevant.

Could we do with something different in the middle? Probably, yeh, and it'd be a good addition if we got somebody in.

But Barry really does still offer a bit of everything.

I'll be straight with you mate, I used several youtube videos to make my point...you havent used a single one.

Therefore your argument is invalid
