Holgate is very good. I think he has a chance.

Calvert-Lewin seems to be one of those players, like Rodwell, who coaching teams fall in love with, so it could be that he has the work ethic to overcome what looks to be a fairly low level of natural talent.

A year ago I would have said that Davies is nailed on to go all the way, but as time goes on he looks more and more like someone who lacks focus. Now I'm not so sure that he even has a future in the Premier League.

Can't say that I've seen anything of note in the others you mentioned.

Lookman would be the one for me. Was really impressed with him tonight for the unde 21’s playing in the number 10 role.

I was a bit underwhelmed with Lookman last season, but I would certainly like to see more of him under a different manager. It's great when a player changes your mind (as long as it's for the better, obviously).

I give him massive credit for having the balls to go to Germany; and especially for sticking two fingers up to Allardyce and backing himself to get game time in a better team than Everton.

..let’s not forget a lot depends on who you play for.

Couldn’t agree more - Joe Gomez has been capped for England & in fairness did well if I remember the bits of the game I saw v Brazil - but he is what at Liverpool? Third choice right back behind Clyde, Alexander-Arnold or given his versatility, he’s what fifth choice centre back there? Not sure what he has done to warrant his caps. Maybe I’m wrong. Compare that to say Ben Mee & Tarkowski at Burnley who have played week in week out in the Prem. Belated call up for Tarkowski but the Gomez one ahead of him baffled me.

Danny Ings probably played the best football of his career at Burnley, scored plenty. England caps - 0. Moves to Liverpool, designated squad player status & hey presto, England cap follows.

So, for the Everton lads mentioned, it’ll be hard to break into that particular closed shop of England. Your club form only counts for so much, if you play for a team that carries favour with the media, you are in. Personally, I’d rather Everton won a throw in than England won a game, but each to their own.

Who knew the media loved Jake Livermore so much

Danny Welbeck and Jake Livermore England call-ups are good sign as it shows Gareth Southgate is adopting successful Germany model.

England boss Gareth Southgate defended his selection of Jake Livermore and insisted loyalty deserved to be rewarded.

West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Pardew has backed Gareth Southgate's decision to call Jake Livermore up for England.

Jake Livermore showing the way for West Brom youngsters.

Who knew.

D - I put ZERO stock on whether people play for England, its not even about footballing talent, its just basically X Factor with the English media picking the squad, so it doesnt matter how good or bad they are, it only matters how much the media love them.
This
Lookman might get in if he moves to a big club

They definitely overlook our players

Then when our players are in it’s usually because they’re being touted to United/City/Chelsea

:coffee:

Anyone who missed it, try and find the match last night for England u21s vs Romania...

Lookman and Dowell doing very well...if they were in Brazil shirts the media would be going nuts.

Kenny looked solid bar one great turn from a left winger and DCL was close to netting 2ce near the end...

They all looked very comfortable at this level.

I would look comfortable versus Romanian farmers.
