Can relate. My daughter is 8, and her best mate's sister is 10, and has decided she's a boy called Joe. She's always been an absolute handful, her 16 year old sister has come out as gay a bit ago and her parents have just had a messy AF breakup, it's clearly a cry for attention but... ya know. My daughter is asking all sorts of questions about these issues and I'm trying to deal with them as best I can, but, she's 8, FFS.
It's the internet 100% that it starts from, quite worrying if it's reaching 8 year olds now.

It's a much bigger discussion but I believe at least a lot of these young people are gay. But in an almost cult like fashion , they are being led to believe that their feelings are more than just gay, that they have to be something more special. Just a dangerous road to go down, given the long term damage it could do.

When being gay isn't a big deal anymore basically, make something else up

Whereas a genuine transgender person who isn't on the internet spreading this nonsense is someone who does need attention and support.
Good story this

I know , it came to mind and then I realised I couldn't remember who it was enough to even look the story up!

The beauty of science is that it is fluid. We are constantly finding out things we once thought were true aren’t anymore. We adapt, we learn.
As Professor Brian Cox often states - "We could be wrong, but the evidence suggests....."
If only more non-scientists could be that humble

The thing with science though is that very educated people discover new things in regards to science.

Not a bunch of young people on the internet!

Has to be a point where science is left to the people who know what they are talking about and any old nonsense spouted on a make believe place is given as much credit as it deserves.

people are allowed to say what they want though.

Apart from racists, sexists and other complete tw@ts - they're the only ones not allowed to say what they want.
...and they're pretty much the only people who complain about not being able to say what they want.

"i'M nOt AlLoWeD tO sAy ThE hOlOcAuSt NeVeR hApPeNeD!"... they shout...and thousands of like-minded people affirm their belief. Used to be, it was a local nutter who everyone laughed at...far, far more sinister with the advent of the internet!

The ACLU types would go so far as to say that those people should be allowed to say what they want as well, and let the court of public opinion sort it out.

That is a point which has some merit. However, some speech is currently illegal (hate speech etc), and those laws were passed by a government which was elected by the public, so it could also be argued that the court of public opinion has sorted it out.
