The Crown Ground was sold out for the visit of Derby County and to witness new chairman Kevin Ward take to the pitch before kick-off to greet the supporters. Can Duncan Ferguson get off to a good start under the new owner? Asoro whipped the ball into the box on ten minutes for Osei to head but Foster saved well with his feet, Osei followed up and Foster saved again, brilliant double save. The rain was beating down and Fylde were doing well in possession but not creating anything substantial. Euan Henderson pulled up on 41 minutes indicating an injury and Sam Allaway came on to replace him. Derby broke the deadlock on 62 minutes when Barjonas hit a free-kick into the bottom right corner with Foster getting fingertips to it but not enough to keep it out. With ten minutes to go Jamieson took the throw to Coe who flicked it on to Bytheway, he looked up and pumped it forward through the middle and O'Neill chased it down and was through on goal but he put it wide! He should have scored! Two minutes left and Fylde were building up slowly, Bytheway took it on the right, crossed into the box and O'Neill had his shot saved, the ball rolled to Allaway and he put it in but the flag went up and Allaway was slightly offside! Joe Jamieson was shown his second yellow card on 2 minutes for a late tackle and Fylde were down to ten for the last thirty seconds. It was a win for Derby County and the one goal was enough to get them the three points. Tyrone O'Neill had a golden chance to equalise and he will be kicking himself for missing it.

DF: I didn't think we played too badly, we kept the ball well, the build up was too slow and we didn't create enough. We made one good chance and didn't take it. You have to take them chances and that's why he leave the pitch empty handed.

Sheffield Wednesday vs AFC Fylde
24th October 2029

=sheff wed result.webp

It was a midweek trip to Hillsborough to play Sheffield Wednesday and Fylde needed the points before they slipped into danger in The Championship. It was the worst possible start for Fylde as they were cut open inside 20 seconds, Liam Ryan got it into the box for Ben Morris who took it down superbly and blasted past Foster. The first action had little action, Fylde unable to test Barron in goal and went in at half-time needing some inspiration from Duncan Ferguson. A minute into the second half, Coe played it to McGavin nicely into his path, he moved it forward to O'Neill who had his back to goal and held off his marker well, he turned and played an excellent cutting pass into Bytheway inside the area and he took a shot that clipped the post and went in! Fylde score to level! Okoroji got forward with the ball but lost possession on the edge of the Wednesday box, the ball was hit forward to Alex Crutch who was too fast for Andrew Jolley, he played it to Morris who couldn't miss and he blasted past Foster for his second of the match. Declan Marshall came on for Charley Coe to help bolster the attack in the last 20 minutes. Owusu took the throw for Wednesday deep in their own half, Henderson got up to win the header and found Marshall, he drifted into the box and shot on his right foot but the keeper got down well to keep it out. With five minutes to go Fylde need to keep the pressure on. Bytheway got the ball out wide in stoppage time, he crossed into the box and Henderson was arriving at the far post but he got it terribly wrong and headed well wide. It was a win for Sheffield Wednesday and another defeat for Fylde.

Fleetwood Town vs AFC Fylde
27th October 2029

=fleetwood result.webp

A massive game for both teams as both teams need the points in their battle against relegation this season. Marc Duffy expressed it was going to be a tough season for Fletwood and especially a tough match against local rivals Fylde. The atmosphere was tense around the Highbury stadium and Neil Foster scrambled to get the ball off the line on 20 minutes denying Fleetwood the lead. Fylde won a corner two minutes later and Wisdom crossed in, O'Neill got up above his marker and found the back of the net! What a header! A much needed goal for Tyrone O'Neill and Fylde! The lead didn't last long when Barlow beat Okoroji down his left and crossed for the head of Greenop who left Foster with no chance. Charley Coe got the ball to Tyrone O'Neill, he was tackled just outside the box but Bytheay reacted quickly and got on to the loose ball but he shot just wide! Holloway showed trickery on the right and beat Okoroji to cross for Greenop to head at goal, Foster got a hand to it but the ball ran free and went in, Fleetwood in front with 35 minutes to play. Ferguson changed it up, Tyrone O'Neill went on the left and Barry Sargent replaced Euan Henderson and went up top. The board went up for five additional minutes and the Fylde fans were encouraged but that hope was deflated a minute later when Fylde were two behind after Barlow headed past Foster.

DF: The players have got to dig deeper, we done well going ahead in this game but Fleetwood grew stronger and they had the better of our defence out there today. If we are going to survive the season we have to dig deeper and work harder.

Fylde found themselves slipping down the table as we reached fifteen games of the season. Ferguson recently identified where he needs his squad to improve and is looking around the left side and up front. Jordan Wilson joins in January but Ferguson could do with him now. Up next is a home game against 9th place Aston Villa.

Trust in Allaway @The Penalty Box Dancer

I'm certain if you give him a run of 5/7 games he'll at least complete one pass in one of them and then another 5/7 games he'll hit the target and then the remaining 5/7 games slot at least 2/3 goals which could be the difference between finishing bottom and 2nd bottom.

Do you know I went to Feeneys house to have a word with our captain and tell him who I'd be kidnapping this week......he's only got himself electric gates the snobby little sod. ELECTRIC GATES FFS!!! Not only are they an inconvenience when I'm tying to threaten and intimidate someone, but they are so arty farty and it tells me we are paying this yellow bellied no marks far too much money.

AFC Fylde vs Aston Villa

Duncan Ferguson pinpointed the threat of Villa striker Mason Greenwood and hoped to have a plan to deal with him. Henderson switched the play to Bytheway and made a run into the box, Bytheway crossed into the box for Henderson and he hit the post on 8 minutes. Five minutes later Aston Villa had a free kick which was crossed in by Angel Gomes and Dobson managed to squeezre it past Foster to make it 1-0 to the visitors. Fylde showed resilience and looked to get back into the match, Okoroji played a great ball forward for O'Neill to chase, he got there but Dobson done well to put the tackle in. Jamieson crossed back into the box but Henderson's header was not troubling the keeper. Wisdom got it forward to O'Neill once again to chase down, he got his shot away and the keeper turned it behind. Fylde were battling hard and the first corner wasn't successful but the second Henderson was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded! Henderson needed to score to give Fylde any hope. Rifled into the top corner! What a goal! 1-1! Fylde were playing brilliantly since going a goal down and the whole team was working collectively. The Villa keeper was in great form making saves from close range. Fylde went in at half-time to a roaring home crowd right behind their team. The match was end to end with both defences playing very well. Alan O'Neill was dealing well with Mason Greenwood. Bytheway almost glanced Wisdom's cross over the goal line with 20 minutes to go but Trott got his hands to it. Villa got the ball downfield straight away, Rimmer overlapped on the right and got the ball to cross for Gomes who go ahead of Feeney and put it in to make it 2-1. Fylde kept fighting and Wisdom took the corner on 75 minutes, Feeney got up at the near post and headed into the far corner! 2-2! No it won't count! The referee says Feeney pushed Dobson unfairly to win the header. Fylde had a minute left to find the equaliser. Coe played it wide to Bytheway, he held off the opposition player and played it into the feet of second half substitute Victor Oto'o, he hit it first time on his right and made it 2-2! What a finish! Straight from the kick-off Villa came forward, Rimmer got it on the right and crossed for Mason Greenwood who powered a header past Foster, 3-2. A deathblow for Fylde. It's all over at the Crown Ground and what a game it was for Aston Villa but Fylde will be reeling after playing so well.

DF: It had everything and to say we went toe to toe with Aston Villa is something I didn't think I would be saying. We played well and deserved something out of the game but it wasn't to be.

AFC Fylde vs Hull City
10th October 2029

=Hull city result.webp

It was Theo Walcott up against his former coach Duncan Ferguson in this clash between 11th and 18th place. Ferguson made two changes with Mark Morton coming in at right back and Victor Oto'o getting a start up front. Fylde were building up slowly, Morton played to Bytheway, Bytheway played it inside to McGavin, he ran forward and tried the shot but it was easy for the keeper. Neil Foster made two outstanding saves to keep Hull out and was impressive as usual in goal. Hull were throwing everything at Fylde in the second half but Foster was making incredible stops and keeping his team in the game. Fylde kept their shape and kept the score at 0-0. They had a free-kick on 88 minutes on the edge of the Hull City penalty area and Wisdom curled it around the wall and past the keeper! 1-0! The crowd erupted! Fylde had four minutes of stoppage time to get through. The whole crowd were anxious for the final whistle and the match ran over the four minutes. The whistle was blown and Fylde earnt a fantastic three points!

DF: We kept the intensity and I must say we defended brilliantly and Neil was fantastic in goal. He is a class act. We got the points we deserve today and we need to build on this.
