Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

But for that your talking full timers. I don't know about you but I couldn't sleep at night worrying if there were a few players on 500 to 1000 a week if we were back in the vanarama.

Then again, you've got to speculate to accumulate!

Aren't most teams in the National League FT anyway. I know it drops off by the time you get to the Vanarama North/South and the regional divisions below that but I think Southport were the only PT team in the Vanarama/Conference a couple of years back when they were really struggling financially.

You never really hear about the postmen, teachers and plumbers playing when a non-league team gets to the 3rd round of the FA Cup now whereas it was a big part of the story a few years back.

From what I know about Fylde. Their players are full time and train every day. Some are earning between 1.5 - 2.5 grand a week.

I shouldn't have stayed in school and worked hard to get my qualifications. I should have moved to Fylde and kicked a ball for a living.

Maybe, but your career will last a lot longer than theirs. They’ll be done by age 35 and wondering what to do next. Fylde’s not big enough to have jobs for the boys, despite Dunc’s best efforts so far.

FYLDE FACE THE HARSH REALITIES OF THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE

crewe.webp

A well contested game by Fylde and they looked almost certain to take a point but it was a last kick of the game goal for Molyneux and Crewe Alexandra. One punt upfield in the 94th minute which found Molyneux in behind the defence and he kept his cool to beat Griffiths. A hard one to take for Fylde but an early learning curve. Legs were tiring late on and a lapse in concentration cost them.

league cup 2nd.webp

A break from league action and a chance for Fylde to get into the last 32 of the League Cup. A good game for Oldhams's Jose Baxter saw him creating opportunities from the no.10 role but Fylde mananged to keep Oldham out and defended very well. The home side has a chance to win the game when Oliver Sarkic struck the post in the second half. The game went to penalties after 90 minutes and up first was Danny Rowe. His penalty was saved by Adebayo and not the start Fylde wanted. Jose Baxter put one into the stands and Fylde had a chance. Hardy and Dooley both scoring from the 12 yards but but McKee and Brown both missed for Oldham. With the game at 2-2 up stepped Ryan Croasdale and he sent Fylde into the third round of the League Cup sending Adebayo the wrong way.

peterborough.webp

Peterborough opened the scoring on 11 minutes with Reed getting his free-kick over the wall and Griffiths unable to keep it out as he got fingers to it but couldn't get a clean enough hand to stop it. Reed played a part in the second as he brought the ball forward under no challenge, it was played out wide and crossed in but Reynolds cleared to Mason who hit it first time inside the box into the top left corner. 2-0 after 16 minutes and Fylde players were left looking bewildered. Francis-Angol was having a hard time marking Mason as he kept losing him at every opportunity, this time his shot was saved by Griffithd as was the follow up. Danny Rowe lost the ball inside his own half and a long ball forward put Proctor one on one who blasted it past Griffiths. 3-0 and no reply. However straight from the kick off, Sarkic picked up the ball on the left flank and drifted inside beating three Peterborough players, he thought about the shot before hitting a curling effort around the keeper to give Fylde a chance. Warwick took his chance in the 58th minute after a poor clearance from Feeney. The Fylde defence were weak and timid throughout the 90 minutes. Tyrone O'Neill replaced Danny Rowe who had a poor game but he put a couple of shots wide of the goal. There was no easy way back and a disappointed performance saw Fylde crumble in Peterborough.

checkatrade rotherham.webp

The Checkatrade group stage was under way with a trip to League One Rotherham. A few changes saw Brett McGaving replace Jim Kellerman in midfield and Daniel Mandroiu came in for Ryan East. Croasdale kept his place in the midfield three but it was own goal from Croasdale after he panicked as the Rotherham free kick was drifted into the box and ended up trying to clear the ball but sliced it into his own net. Fylde put up a good fight and came close to an equaliser Wright-Phillips and O'Neill both having their shots saved at close range. A tough group for Fylde but can provide an experience of playing against tougher opposition.

forest green.webp

Back to league action and Fylde got a win. Verkoelen put one past his own keeper to give Fylde a lead in the 15th minute. Flylde played good football and rarely had any trouble from Forest Green. As the game went on they receded into their own half and eventually the equaliser came. Hunt crossed to the far post and May knocked it back across goal for Patterson to stab in. James Hardy crossed early to the far post and found the run of O'Neill who controlled well and slotted it to give Fylde a 2-1 lead and a solid win. A must needed win.

table after 8.webp

Fylde sit around mid-table after playing 8 games and winning 3. A fair start to life in League Two.

DF: We've got to pick up our performances, we done well against Forest Green to grab the winner after conceding but losing at home to Crewe like we did is unacceptable. The intensity levels must improve and we must be more ruthless. Defensively we have been worrying and losing at Peterborough like we did looked like we have never seen a ball before. We have to find consistency and we have to a bit more aggressive.

PLAYERS OUT ON LOAN

players out on loan.webp

Duncan Ferguosn has allowed Kyle Cameron to go on loan at Dover to gain more first team experience. The player isn't far away from being a first team regular but Ferguson could not promise him he would be starting games.

New youth signing Sterling has joined Spennymoor in the National League North for a season long loan. Jaidon Anthony and Sam Gibson also go on loan in the same division as does Dom Tear. Players can be recalled at any time.

Great win in the cup that. Disappointed we didn't get a PL team though.

Beating Forest Green was excellent though. You look at them in that game and you wonder what's up with the other games where they played like 10 scarecrow in a field. I think maybe they're not ready to cope with the pressure at this level. Ferguson has to get a grip on them and make them believe. I fear this could take a few seasons as we have a lot of dead wood in the squad on high wages so to change them out quickly will be difficult.

I expected to be about 7th now but these sloppy individual mistakes are killing us. Sort it out Ferguson!

FYLDE TAKE A HIT IN LEAGUE

morecambe.webp

Struggling Morecambe brought fight and determination to Mill Farm and after Sarkic's opening goal in the 2nd minute they replied through Leitch-Smith a few minutes later. Morecambe took advantage of Fylde's fragile defensive state and on 17 minutes Studholme shrugged off Brewitt and Reynolds to put Morecambe ahead. Fylde stayed in the game and were unlucky not to equalise from James Hardy's free kick late in the first half. Eventually their persistence paid off and Sarkic brought the bal down the left, making an incisive pass into the feet of Danny Rowe who only had the keeper to beat. 2-2. A good fight back from Fylde and a point on the board.

lincoln city.webp

When you think things might take a turn for the better, it could not get much worse than this. Lincoln played Fylde off the park and a slumped in the seat Duncan Ferguson could not seem to get a reaction from the players after going in at 2-0 down. Fylde looked defensively poor once again and Lincoln made them pay, balls over the top caught out the defence who had a times played a higher line than necessary and before Fylde knew it they were 4-0 down and sinking. Oliver Sarkic produced a piece of magic in the 87th minute when he took matters into his own hands and bulldozed though the Lincoln back line before powering his shot away. Fylde rushed for the ball and in the last minutes of time had a close range effort tipped out for a corner. Hardy took the corner and the ball was cleared to Jim Kellerman who had his shot blocked and eventually cleared to safety. A poor display from Fylde.

cambridge.webp

You have to feel for Fylde here as they played really well creating chances but struggling to put them away. East found himself through on goal but a weak effort was easy for Smith to clutch. A reoccurring problem sa a long ball played down the flank to Watson who had the pace to cut inside and bury it past Griffiths. The only goal of the game and was enough to give Cambridge the win. Watson went close again in the 92nd minute with a header going only inches over the bar.

DF: We're creating in front of goal but we don't have that quality on the pitch to be finishing. The lads gave it their all today and fought hard. This is a big step up for us, we realise that and so do the majority of the fans. It's not a question of fitness, it's a question of intensity and we need to match teams and up our level of intensity. We don't have the money like some teams in this division do, remember it was only a few years back we were playing two leagues below this. David has backed me as much as he can and it's a case of being shrewd in the transfer market. We have to keep going and grind out results.

southend.webp

A battle ensued on the pitch at Mill Farm in a heated game with League One Southend United. Chances at both ends but neither sides could finish in 90 minutes. Southend look the more threatening but could not find a way through a sturdy and much improved back line. The game ended up going to penalties and Southend missed their second spot kick when Thorvaldsson's shot was saved by Griffiths. Fylde players were in their third shoot-out in as many rounds ans all players who stepped up kept their cool in front of goal. Another win from penalties but Fylde have managed the unexpected and are in the hat for the last 16.

DF: It's unbelievable, three games in the competition and we have won all three on penalties. The last 16 awaits and we're enjoying it. I would like another home tie and I would take anyone, we can get them here and get them to a shoot-out! But in all seriousness it's great to be in this competition and we're the lowest rank side left. I think Peterborough are also still in so out of the remaining sides I would take them at home.

The draw will be made on Saturday morning before Fylde travel to Port Vale.
