Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

FERGUSON: WE MUST BE READY

DF: Reading are a team pushing for promotion to the Premier League and we are a team that were playing non-league football two years ago. We have to be ready and be at our very best at the Madjeski. If we stick to the game plan we have a chance but we have to play to our best and the lads need to be up for this from the off. We will have a good crowd with us in support and we know for a fact they'll be right behind the team.
We'll do our part Dunc so you better do yours.

Reading vs AFC Fylde
F.A. Cup Fourth Round
20th January 2029

=reading result.webp

It was a big chance for Fylde to progress to the last 16 of the F.A. Cup but Reading were a very tough opposition. Jamie Downes was up front for Reading, the leading scorer in the Championship with 14 goals. Charlie Dootson was in the starting line-up for Fylde playing behind Tyrone O'Neill. Alan O'Neill came in for Nathan Smith at the back. Ferguson stated before the game that Reading may look jaded after playing midweek against QPR and Fylde looked to take advantage, Dootson played it left to Henderson who hit it first time with his right foot but the shot was a few inches wide. Pope done brilliant to win the ball back in the middle with a great tackle, he got it out wide to Okoroji and he found Henderson. Henderson played it inside to Pope who knocked it to the right for Bytheway who cut inside and hit a low shot into the bottom corner! Fylde with an early lead! The away fans make Bytheway's name echo around the stadium! Reading were trying to limit Fylde's chances and Henderson was hoping to find success from taking long range shots. Henderson lost possession in the Reading half and they managed to get the ball forward down the middle for Finley Bexfield and he hit a venomous shot that had Foster back peddling but he got hids fingertips to it and knocked it over the bar. Fylde got into half-time with the only goal of the game. Reading made all three substitutions with 30 minutes remaining. Doran was winning headers in the box for Reading but he couldn't get them on target and Feeney was making it difficult for him. Ten minutes left and Fylde just had to keep going and stick to their rigid game plan. Pope got the ball up to O'Neill who try to hold off the defender but he got a foot in and got it forward, McKue chased it down for Reading, got into the box beating Feeney and hit a shot across goal which Foster got a hand to, what a save! Reading had a corner which was whipped into the box, McMillan went down claiming Henderson shoved him and the referee pointed to the spot! In the 89th minute! Doran with the chance to score and he buries it into the top corner! A harsh moment for Fylde to take. It was the final piece of action at the Madjeski stadium and both teams will battle it out in a replay at Mill Farm.

DF: That was hard to take, considering how controversial the penalty decision was. We all feel hard done by and it feels more like a defeat but we played brilliantly and now have a chance to play them at home in front of our home fans.

No shame in a draw and how the ref didn't see their manager leg it on the pitch in our kit and handball to give themselves a pen I'll never know.

Still, I managed to impregnate 2 of the lasses serving sausage rolls (served them one myself), smashed up 2 toilets, robbed 5 seats and pebble dashed my name on the floor with my classic sign off UTFC

Proper boss away day. Went to Lego land after it as well as its only 20 minutes away. Stuck a Harpoon up Darth Vaders crack!!!

Could have throttled him. You can't do any MMA stuff on these fancy Dan's and get away with it.

Back to ours and the sift southern shandies won't be able to cope with the atmosphere at the theatre of wet dreams.

UTFC!
Haven't told you's but I'm watching this game from the directors box. Put a little consortium together and we're gonna talk $$$ with Haythornthwaite afterwards. What he doesn't know yet is that we've only got $26.54 between the 4 of us but free sandwiches and chilled bottled water at someone else's expense was too good an opportunity to miss.

If there's a fifth seat what about if we make it a round £30?

Luton Town vs AFC Fylde
24th January 2029

=Luton result.webp

A midweek fixture between league leaders Luton Town and promotion hopefuls AFC Fylde. Dimitar Berbatov was aiming to get Luton back into the Championship after a two season absence. Carroll lifted the ball into the box but it was dealt with by Feeney, he nodded it down to Okoroji who played it out wide to Henderson under pressure, Henderson got it down the left for the run of O'Neill, he cut inside and played a nice through ball the defence for Mel Pope and he hit it first time on his right foot, 1-0 to The Coasters! Yan Dhanda took the free-kick outside the box and whipped it in for James Clark who headed past Foster to level the scoreline! It was an exciting game of football and Morton got down the right at speed, received the ball from Dootson and crossed in for Tyrone O'Neill to get his 17th of the season! Fylde play some of the best counter attacking football in this division! Yan Dhanda was causing Fylde some problems and had great ability to create chances for Luton, he got the ball into the feet of Aaron Charles and he held off the defence to blast into the top corner! What a match this is turning out to be. It was goals galore in this spectacular game, Henderson took it down the left and played it to O'Neill, with a quick pass to Dootson in the centre, he played it to the right towards Bytheway and he sent it into the top left corner with his right foot! 3-2! Bret McGavin came on for Charlie Dootson to tighten up the midfield in the second half. Fylde had everyone behind the ball in the second half as Luton were throwing everything at them when they come forward but the best defence in the league held firm. Jones played it to Walsh on the edge of the box who then teed up the shot but Foster saved it comfortably. Fylde camped inside their own box for most of this second half but are dealing well with the pressure. Five minutes to go, Walsh took the ball on the left, got it into the box for Dhanda who struck the post, Foster was beat and Sam Greenwood was there to stab it home, 3-3! Luton pushed hard for the equaliser and it came minutes before the end. If one team was going to find a winner it will be Luton, they got a corner in stoppage time, Dhanda took the corner but Foster was there to punch away and then Bytheway hoofed it out for a throw-in. The match came to an end and what a game it was! Fylde could have had all three ponts but Luton were relentless in attack.

DF: What a match that was! To get a point away to Luton is a good outcome but we done well to be leading and to show the character we did in taking the lead twice shows the attitude and dtermination of the players. Luton are clearly the favourites for the title but we'll do all we can to keep our presence around the top of the table.

AFC Fylde vs AFC Wimbledon
27th January 2029

=Wimbledon result.webp

It was third against fourth in this six pointer at Mill Farm. Fylde had drew the last two league games and needed the win to keep their promotion hopes alive. Former Fylde midfielder Charlie McCann lined up in the midfield for Wimbledon having been at the club for three seasons. Mick Wisdom whipped in the corner on 25 minutes but McCann was there to clear, Bytheway got hold of it and hit a shot from outside the box that forced a save from the keeper. McGavin got the ball to Josh Ferguson who turned and dribbled forward, Okoroji appeared on his left and he crossed low into the box, Bytheway got there and blasted into the bottom corner! Fylde came forward again, the crowd lapping up this scintillating football, Okoroji put the ball into the danger zone again for Bytheway but he was clattered and the referee gave the penalty! With Euan Henderson on the bench, Mick Wisdom opted to take the kick. Wisdom puts it into the top right corner! Danger man Ben Hinchcliffe came on for Wimbledon in the last half hour to try to rescue something from this match. Henderson replaced Bytheway and Allaway went to the right and Ben Hinchcliffe does what he does best and puts the ball in the back of the net with his first touch! What a hit! Five minutes to go and Wimbledon went three up top, Fylde had to be at their defensive best to get the result. It was a heart in mouth moment when Ryan's shot from outside the box was just wide of the post. Tyrone O'Neill was closed down on 88 minutes and Hinchcliffe took control on the left flank but Morton done his job and got the ball cleared. Henderson got the ball on 92 minutes, ran forward and played it to Allaway he got it back to Henderson inside the box but a last ditch tackle stopped the shot to deny Fylde a third. Tyrone O'Neill looked to have been fouled in the 93rd minute and the Wimbledon players accused the striker of play acting to run down the clock, tempers began to flare between the two teams and Duncan Ferguson was shown a yellow card for his theatrics on the touchline. O'Neill got back to his feet and Okoroji took the throw-in, there it is! The final whistle and what a win for Fylde!

Fylde have made themselves hard to beat in League One this season and have been in excellent form securing results against top sides in the division. The season is now into the final third and Fylde will be pushing for a third consecutive promotion. Duncan Ferguson has played down his sides chances this season and continues to not get ahead of himself but the media and supporters are already thinking the 'what ifs' could become an actual reality.
