Fixture changes- How to make a point.

The difficulty in the black market mate. There are millions who want to watch Pl domestically and in Ireland, who can’t go to the game - who can’t watch a game live at 3.00pm on Sat. The only way to do is illegally through alledgedly through streaming.

So what you have is millions with allegedly illegal streaming services, providing a service legit TV broadcasters can’t. Thus they are loosing billions in revenue.

How do the TV companies combat this, they minimise the amount of games at 3.00 pm Sat and create new slots that they can legally show games.

Thats the problem with the blackout and why it won’t last. Billions are at stake in rights in a huge national industry, while as this thread shows there is already a lobby if the fans.

It will give, in the not to distant future. The future will be no U.K. blackouts.
People dont stream IPTV because its the only way to watch Sat 3pm. People stream IPTV because its unaffordable otherwise. My last Sky bill, over 2 years ago, was £108 for the month. Thats why I gave it up. Nothing to do with what game they show and at what time. If I wanted to, IPTV is available for nearly half that, for the year.

And maybe here lies the answer. If you want to stop TV changing fixtures, cut them off at source. Cancel all subscriptions. Dont give them the money that enables them to call the shots. It will lead to the cheapening of the deals they can afford and loosen their grip on the game.

No doubt It will have the effect of raising ticket prices to offset the price, but as with everything there is a price I'm willing to pay. If it goes above that then I stop that too.

The more midweek games, the emptier the ground will be. People make the effort for one or two games, but when it’s game after game, people don’t want to keep using leave etc.

Despite the money being more for tv games, the club won’t want to be seeing their shiny new stadium with empty seats everywhere being broadcast worldwide.

By agreeing to the changes every time, they are creating a rod for their own back.

I think the idea of having the blackout period on a Saturday for 3pm games was to help lower league teams that having a PL game on at 3pm on tv would have a negative effect on their attendance.

I follow Marine and there is a noticeable drop off, of 200 when everton are at home (a little less for the reds).

But I think the PL has evolved in such a way, that the 3pm blackout wouldn't even impact the PL now but actually League Clubs, as theyll be the ones Aired

Give it 2-3 years and there will be a max of 2 PL games at 3pm on a sat and it wont be a "premium" game itll be your likes of Burnley Vs. Fulham

I suspect people have different motivations depending on their own circumstances mate, cost, value and accessibility make up a wider attractive package for IPTV.

I spend a bit of time in the States and Australia from time to the and the games are far more accessible - you can pick whatever gave you want to watch when you want to watch it as part of a package, which most seem to do to be fair through traditional means.

I wonder if the PL/Sky introduced a £20 -£25 a month season ticket, were could access any game, highlight, goals any time - would many revert to paying it - I think many would. Also think it’s inevitable to be honest. IPTV has a shelf life IMO, like Napster or Limewite a Spotify will come and legitimately replace it. It’s inevitable.

It’s the natural growth of the industry, domestic rights have stalled and this is the log jam.

The loss of the 3.00pm kick off is collateral in the vacuum of the above being sorted.

That was the intention mate.

The history around it is very interesting, but the game and technology as we are seeing with IPTV are moving onI guess if IPTV is pricing anything it’s they’re is a means of watching any game any time it’s in, yet it doesn’t seem to adversely effected lower league teams.

Interestingly the EFL stream all their games….

Starting with tomorrow night, I mean we're not talking blocks of seats, but definitely plenty still available

If you cave to that; every game becomes televised like in Spain.

They'll take, take and take until all 380 games are televised.

Friday: 8pm
Saturday: 12:30pm, 3pm, 5:30pm, 8pm
Sunday: 12:00pm, 2:15pm, 4:30pm, 7:30pm
Monday: 8pm

I do not think removing the blackout benefits anyone, if anything, it will only clear the pathway for every game being televised. The regular match going fan, is worth a crumb of what TV companies can offer for one measly game.

They'll push the new faux excitement in thinks like 8pm Sunday football. So I do not think itll fix anything personally.
Perhaps there could be some sort of negotiated give and take from the government and TV providers. Allow them to broadcast 3PM Saturday matches in exchange for not broadcasting after 7PM Friday-Monday. That would alleviate a lot of the headaches for traveling supporters.

They dont care about travelling supporters. Thats why Everton-Arsenal is 8pm, 4 days before Xmas, and not midday.

They'll just end up having a set schedule and the "3pm", will be no more.

It happens in Italy, it happens in Spain... having a full weekend of televised football for the global audience? Its a massive tick.

Our ST may well be important for revenue, but TV money will always prevail.

The likes of Spain, Italy and Portugal have very few Saturday 3pm kick offs now.

They also change matches just a few days in advance, when I was Portugal a couple of months ago I was disappointed that I wouldn't get to either of the Lisbon giants as I didn't arrive until the Monday. When I checked again a couple of days before, one was on the Monday and the other Tuesday so got to see both.

I would be interested to hear from any posters from those countries, and what the feeling is about constant changes to the schedule, how that impacts supporters and whether they have the same nostalgia for 3pm Saturday games?

Taking it back to the question of how to make a point.

Would take a lot of cross pollination among fans and would need to be given a chance to grow (but with the web its got more of a chance) - my suggestion would be, for all non 3pm or maybe non weekend fixtures, all fans in the stadium, on 60 minutes, turn their back on the game, for longer and longer until the message sinks in.

Pipe dream obviously but it'd be great to see.
