Okay then, so where's your proof that it would hinder us ?
As it stands i've seen zero.
I can't predict the future.
But it doesn't take a great leap of faith to realise that playing an extra 10 games has the potential to seriously hinder a squad as small and vulnerable as Everton's.
As things currently stand, we would be fooked if someone like Gibson got injured.
2007/08 is another one. Got all the way to the last 16 of Europe and finished on 65 points.
Proper hinders us does Europe lar !
Gibson has been injured for half of the season and we're currently 6th ? Mirallas too.
Are you trying to argue that amassing 65 points proves that your squad hasn't been hindered by playing extra European games?
How do we know we wouldn't have amassed more points without having to endure the extra games that we played? I've already stated that it is impossible to know whether it would or wouldn't.
Nobody knows. But it doesn't take a genius to realise that playing an extra 10 games puts an extra strain on your squad, and that it RISKS hindering your progress in the league. See Tottenham, 2013.
Do you not acknowledge the risk that the extra games pose to a small and vulnerable squad like Everton's?

Playing an extra 10 games a season is not going to hurt anyone. I don't see why a footballer can't cope with playing 2 games a week for 9 months. When we were kids we played 38 games in the space of two months and we wasn't athletes like these.
A 3 day break between games is plenty. If anything it will make the squad perform better because there's more playing time to be had and more players will want the opportunity to impress.
Players want games.
Last time i checked Tottenham were doing pretty well like.
But really, you don't think it's logical to look at our recent European seasons and compare them to seasons where we haven't had Europe ? That's surely the best way of trying to understand the impact of European games.
I don't think playing a midweek game every now and then poses some great risk. There is nothing to show that doing so would somehow ruin our league performance.
Tottenham are going to miss out on the Champions League by a very small margin, imo.
Losing their star player through getting injured during a Europa League match is likely to have cost them points, making it the difference between qualifying and not qualifying for the Champions League. It's as simple as that.
If you don't want to acknowledge the risk that an extra 10 games poses to your squad, then that is up to.
Well we haven't done it before or since.
The fact that we tend to have got more points in seasons with europe than seasons without it isn't conclusive, but it's not what you would expect if europa had a consistent and significant negative effect on our league form.
I think that was the strongest side Moyes has assembled. And I'm not saying that European competition definitely hinders league form, but I'm saying the risk is increased dramatically and the rewards are outweighed by the risk.
Do you remember what happened the following year once Yakubu got injured?
Injury is a part of football, you can't get rid of that risk, but the more games you play, the greater the risk is. And certain injuries affect certain squads a lot more than others. And I consider Everton's squad to be both small and vulnerable.
That's all fair enough.
I agree about risk and reward but I value the reward of a europa league trophy more than you and the risk of missing out of the top 4 less. Your position is reasonable enough, I just don't share it.
