Final League Position

But we dont need a high league postion to win a Cup, you can win them at anytime.

Ask Portsmouth.

Sure. But it shows how good a team we are that we finish high in the league. When we finish lower, we'll be less good and so less likely to win stuff.

Assuming everything else is equal of course, we pick up a manager who isn't a choking feckwit and we could probably win two cups every year with wigan's squad.

And why do people keep saying Europe would cause us to drop points ? Where's the proof ?

It didn't happen to us the last two seasons we were in Europe, and it didn't happen to Liverpool this season. When they got knocked out of Europe by Zenit they were on exactly the same points total as they were on at the same point in 2011/12 with no European football.

I've already told you why it wouldn't.

Ignoring European competition Spurs' revenues are far higher than ours. That means they can pay higher wages and afford better players. Us getting into the Champions League and getting £20m will not do anything in the grand scheme of things.

So us increasing our revenues by 20%+ would achieve nothing?

Behave lad, the CL drives the modern game, it would drive all of our revenue streams forwards (go & read Deloittes view on Spurs CL season)

One season won't all of a sudden mean we've cracked it, but it would be a start & give us a chance of establishing ourselves as a CL club.

Sorry, wrong again.

In the period being discussed they've shed;

Niko Kranjcar
Vedran Corluka
Steven Pienaar
Sebastien Bassong
Luka Modric
David Button
Rafael Van der Vaart
Giovani Dos Santos
Louis Saha
Carlo Cudicini
Jermaine Jenas
Jamie O'Hara
Jonathan Woodgate
Robbie Keane
Alan Hutton
Peter Crouch
Wilson Palacios
Roman Pavlyuchenko

I have no idea why you're trying to argue against here, as it's obvious to a blind man, that their revenues rocketed the season they played in the CL & they've reduced their expenditure / wage bill in the 2 seasons since.

Aside from Keane, Modric, VDV and Krancjaar they were all on about £20 a week.

Also, by your logic (you either win a trophy or you don't), then getting knocked out of the Quarter Final of the Europa League is 'much the same' as not competing in it at all.

It is, yeah in the long term. It's fun and enjoyable, much as competing in a title race and finishing 2nd is fun and enjoyable but ultimately a failiure.

But who says we won't win that QF though?

But what if Liverpool's current side is actually stronger than last year's? And yet they were on the same amount of points as the previous season? If that was the case, then their Europa League games will have hindered them.

You can't compare two variables when one of the variables doesn't exist. You don't know how Liverpool would have done if they didn't have Europa League this season, just like we don't know how Everton would have done in the seasons when we were competing in the Europa League.

But I'm going to stick my neck out here, and say that an extra 6 or 7 games is going to hinder a small vulnerable squad like Everton's. And I don't think the rewards of the Europa League compensate enough for this, especially when the gap between us and the top 4 is so small.

I think Spurs' Europa League exploits have hindered them in the league this season.

Of course you can compare their season without Europe to their season with Europe. You're just saying that because it doesn't fit your argument.

Spurs ended playing 12 additional games in the EL this season, if someone can explain how this could possibly assist them in their PL campaign I'm all ears like.

It's about risk and reward.

The rewards of the Europa League are outweighed by the risk that the competition poses to your league form, imo.

Winning the trophy would be worth the risk, doing a Fulham and losing the final wouldn't be, not when we are 3 or 4 points off the top 4.

No, you can't really can you?

As they're a different side under a different manager.

If Dogleash was still there & they were playing the same style of football with the same team, then maybe your comparison would have some validity, as it stands it doesn't.

No, I'm afraid you are talking crap, again.

You're comparing a different team that is playing in a different season, and competing against other teams that are also different from the previous season.

You can't make a valid comparison to how you would or wouldn't have performed in a particular season if you were or were not competing in European competitions, because the alternative reality doesn't exist.

But as I've stated, I'm going to say an extra 6 or 7 games will hinder a small and vulnerable squad like Everton's.

I don't think it'll 100% hinder us, tbh.

Probably it will but sometimes winning games breeds confidence and helps you win other games. We gained more points in the fiorentina season while still competing in lots of competitions than in any other before or since and we only really fell apart after we'd been kicked out of europe.

Okay then, so where's your proof that it would hinder us ?

As it stands i've seen zero.

We finished on 61 points in 2009/10. Then in 2010/11 when we were out of Europe we finished on 54 points.

Again, i'm sure you'll have an excuse as to why that's not a fair comparison. But there we go.
