Final League Position

People say that every year though mate.

I personally think Everton will be even stronger next year, not as strong as we would have been if we had been given an extra 17million pounds worth of revenue to spend, though.

That's because it's generally the case

Lets hope so.

I think it'll take more than 17 million for us to win the league, but there you go.

Without doubt. Winning the league isn't even on our radar. Qualifying for the Champions League is though, it's in touching distance. And I think the Europa League will hamper us in that regard next season. Will still be fun though, but it's fun that will cost us points.

When you're competing with a budget less than most of the bottom half of the table we should just be thankful for where we are.

But you reach the CL to get you the money that will help you reach the CL again and again until you can win the league.

That's the plan, right?

And that's why we should concentrate on the league and not the europa and the other cups.

There's no way that the standard of the Premiership increases year on year.

I doubt that hardly any of the teams above us would consider their current squads to be the best they have had in that last 5 years. Each season is different, there is no constant progression to refer to.

It all boils down to how money is spent. Spend it badly and it will hamper you, not help you. The opposite is true if it is spent wisely. Which is why Moyes is worth his weight in gold.

4th, 11th, 6th, 5th, 5th.

8th, 7th, 7th, 6th.

We've got 61 points twice in the PL in 2005 it got us 4th, in 2010 it got us 8th.

You can't fix our problem with £17m, 20 years of not spending enough won't be fixed by 1 fourth place finish and a champions league group stage appearance

They've signed Vertonghen, Dembele, Holtby, Dempsey, Adebayor, Lloris, and given Bale a new contract....

The only big spenders to go were VDV, Modric, and Pienaar.

Sorry, wrong again.

In the period being discussed they've shed;

Niko Kranjcar
Vedran Corluka
Steven Pienaar
Sebastien Bassong
Luka Modric
David Button
Rafael Van der Vaart
Giovani Dos Santos
Louis Saha
Carlo Cudicini
Jermaine Jenas
Jamie O'Hara
Jonathan Woodgate
Robbie Keane
Alan Hutton
Peter Crouch
Wilson Palacios
Roman Pavlyuchenko

I have no idea why you're trying to argue against here, as it's obvious to a blind man, that their revenues rocketed the season they played in the CL & they've reduced their expenditure / wage bill in the 2 seasons since.

Barring a takeover, that is the only route to winning the league, yes.

But it's a million miles away. And I'd be quite happy to replicate Spurs' limited progress (finishing 4th twice in 3 years), but I do think that the Europa League will play a significant role in preventing Spurs from finishing 4th 3 times in 4 years.

Spurs' Europa Cup jolly is in no way going to make up for them losing out on the Champions League to Arsenal this season by a very small margin.

How many of the above were big earners.

No-ones saying that you can.

However, would our situation be improved or weakened by adding that £17M (20% of our current turnover) to the clubs coffers?
