Fernandes

Yeah, but I'm not going to start licking Manny's arse when he's done bugger all am I?!

Cahill and Ossie have proved themselves this season. Who knows whether Manny will or not? He could be great, he could be [Poor language removed], he could go off on a booze cruise with VDM to the Caribbean. We just don't know.

But until then, I'm not going to defend Manny. He has to prove himself first

You just made my point Welton. Thank you kind sir.

Why does Manny even have to defend himself (or have TX Bill write long winded boring posts in defense of him) after just three matches?

Like I said, I thought many would have learned lessons after jumping to hasty conclusions with Yak's and Jags' early performances but people just keep making the same mistake time and time again.

Yak was given time to settle. It's worked out.

Jags was given time to settle. It's worked out.

Fernandes, if given time to settle, will work out.

He doesn't need "supporters" riding his back after just three matches. (By the way, not riding his back doesn't mean you're "licking his arse." It just means you're willing to give him the time that others have had. Why should he be different?)
Too bad too.

Well I get a kick out of seeing people just hammer a player only to come back later and as you say, "lick his arse."

Hypocritical and uninformed if you ask me.

Hey...if after the end of his loan spell, it's obvious it's not gonna work for him here, then great. Time for him to move on and Everton don't spend money on a player that would have been wasted or could have been put to better use elsewhere.

But that won't be answered after just three matches.

Im picturing me 'riding his back' right now.

Bill, I like the way youre fully behind anyone on the payroll. I admire that mate.

I am Chico.

I've always been that way. Yeah sure there are times when players drive me crazy with their performances but at the end of the day, they play for Everton and Everton is who I support. So by that extension, I support EVERY player in a blue shirt.

Call me naive, call me an optimist, heck, call me crazy.

But that's the way I look at it.

He showed us last season just some of the stuff he can do. Give the guy a break, in fact give every new player that we bring in a [Poor language removed] break. Theres a reason loans last 6-12months and not 5 matches. The Yak, there was so much crap about him it was unbelievable, no one gave him time, but Moyes did and he has produced.

Fernandes possesses some skills and on the ball control that only Arteta has. Arteta also had a few [Poor language removed] games this season, but he'd been here long enough for us to know that its obviously just a bad spell. Fernandes has lots of time to prove to us what he can do and I'm glad its Moyes who will test him throughout the season and not the fans.

Last season I can remember 2 things Fernandes did, Score that screamer against United, against whom he was practically a ghost couldn't be assed running for the whole match shyed away from the tackle all match and genuinely looked disinterested all match, until that goal.

The other thing was the turning Arsenal into knots, I seem to remember that he actually got himself into that mess in the first place. Disposessed whilst he was on the ball. Which is what happened to him twice against Chelsea in the Carling Cup. The problem with Fernandes is he is very much a individual player he's only going to do something if it makes "him" look good [Poor language removed] the team I play for myself sort of mentality I saw it last season but I refused to believe it but you can see it again now. He's a nasty little snide who refuses to put in a shift and get about the opposition.

Having said that, I don't have a problem with Fernandes personally he is a decent player. but when the chips are down and you need a player to stand up and take the game by the scruff off the neck I just can't see him doing so. His attitude is horrible the way he kicked off at Wigan against the referee for example. Okay we were being shafted by the ref but the other players know that spitting the dummy gets you nowhere then why doesn't Fernandes.

Playing in the deep lying midfielder role I'd expect someone with a bit more urgency about him the guy seems to be permenantly doped up on Relaxation tablets or something. The day I see him bust a gut for the team is the day hell freezes over. Luxury player at its finest with an attitude to match it but I would love to be proved wrong.

The guy oozes quality that much is obvious but he has the wrong attitude which can be coached out of him but its a question of will Fernandes be willing to adapt and actually work for the team instead of himself for once.

If that is the case, I have no doubt Moyes will rid him of that trait in an instant.

Moyes has worked hard to put together a team of hard working players who play for the shirt and play for each other before they play for themselves. He won't let one bad apple upset the cart.

If Fernandes has an attitude problem or comes across as a prima donna, Moyes will either fix it or just play his loan out and then send him packing. That is if the players don't "fix" it first. :o
