Chico,
It's pretty clear to me after being on this forum (and TW) for the past few years that some supporters, regardless of circumstances, current form, etc... will have a go at certain players because they simply don't like them or don't like something from their past history. Perhaps they've had their mind made up for awhile and just needed an excuse to lay into the player.
They'll make all sorts of excuses as to why they feel such and such a player deserves vitrol directed at them and yet, they never fail to give a reason as to why other players don't deserve the same vitrol for the exact same issues.
Listen, if someone doesn't like Fernandes because their feelings are still hurt after what happened last summer, that's fine. I can accept that. Don't agree with it, but at least then that someone is being honest about it.
But I'm having a laugh when I see people criticizing an unfit Fernandes for having an arguably poor three match performance when we have other players in Blue who clearly aren't carrying their weight and aren't contributing up to their potential and get a free pass. I used Cahill, Osman, and Neville as examples but it's been various players throughout the season (Yakubu when he started, Jags before Moyes finally found a position for him, etc...)
I mean I hear all this bullshit about how other players have been with us longer and deserve this pass. Fine with me. But then by that logic, Fernandes deserves a pass for many of the performances he put in for us last season when he was by far and away the best player on the pitch for us.
But then I guess that doesn't count now does it?
Why doesn't Fernandes get a chance to prove what he can do in a Blue shirt when he's fit and acclimated? Pienaar did. Yakubu did. Jags did. And look how that turned out. Why should Fernandes be any different?
In addition, several have made comments about the possibility of what a permanent transfer fee might look like and how Fernandes isn't worth __________ (fill in amount here) right now.
Three matches and we already know what he's worth or not worth? Really? I mean you're going to base that on three games? 5M? 10M? 12M? No one is going to show what their true worth is gonna be over three games. No one. Sometimes it takes a simple change of scenery to get a player going. My hope is that Manny, getting regular games with us vs. what he was getting at Valencia will be able to show what he's worth. After all, look at how Pienaar's turned out. You don't think Dortmund would like to have him back on his current form?
I'm know I'm not alone when I say that I trust Moyes more than most in the transfer market. Davie isn't gonna play over the odds for a player who he doesn't feel is worth it.
Has Fernandes been world class since he's been with us? No.
Can he improve upon the performances he's put in with us? Yes.
But if you've actually paid attention, and watched the matches he's played in, you can see a big, big difference between Fernandes with the ball at his feet and Osman, Cahill, Carsley, Neville, etc... with the ball at their feet. In fact, ONLY Arteta has as much skill on the ball as Fernandes does. I know what you're thinking....no, not Pienaar either. We've been crying out for a player with his skill to compliment Arteta, take a bit of the load off of his shoulders, and help drive Everton forward offensively.
I have yet to discuss the several defense splitting passes he's made that I have yet to see another Everton player make.
If you can't and can only focus on a bad pass here or bad pass there, then I'd tell you to refer back up to the first paragraph of this post and ask yourself what your REAL problem is with Fernandes.
