Lucho wouldn't join us. Not a chance. And I'd have a fully fit Fernandes over Lucho Gonzalez any day of the week. Fernandes is more highly rated in Portugal and a more talented player in my opinion.

Where would Arshavin play? Personally I don't think he's realistic either. Bigger teams will be after him in the summer than Everton. As much as I rate Osman he's not as good as Fernandes.

I tend to stick to the more realistic rumours. Players Moyes is definatly after and at the moment Sidwell, Bradley and Fernandes are the only centre midfielders that spring to mind.

Lucho almost joined us last summer and would have if his club didnt do an about turn so to say he would never join us is laughable. All about personal choice but i would have lucho over manny, equally as skilled if not better and is much more commited to the cause. Ashavin would play on the wing or if Cahill is injured his role, Ossie is just as good as MF and more committed

Given the choice between Lucho and Manny, I'd have Lucho definitely.

provided that they're on the exact same terms and that.

There's no proof that Lucho was ever close to joining us. Why would he want to? He could play for much bigger clubs that pay bigger wages. We where rumored to be interested and that is all. Believe me if we had a chance of signing him we wouldn't have done a u turn and turned him down. He's too good a player to turn down.

Fernandes and Lucho are completely different players. At this moment in time I'd say LG was better because he is more established and has settled at a club. Fernandes has more potential and more in his locker.

I used to live in Lisbon though and having seen them go head to head in a Benfica v Porto clash Fernandes is alot more talented and if he ever settled down will be a better player.

But is there any point in arguing about this? Fernandes is a very realistic signing whereas Lucho isn't. I guarantee he won't join us.

As I've said I'm a big fan of Osman but he's not a patch on Fernandes. You yourself said Osman wasn't creative enough a few weeks ago. Other than work rate Fernandes is pretty much better than him in every area. Stronger, faster, more skillful and a better passing range.

I stopped reading there, if you cant be bothered reading properly then there isnt much point.
A) He plays for Porto, were a bigger club and play in the prem
B ) I didnt say we turned him down, Porto turned us down at the last min

I'm eagerly awaiting the following thread from MoyesBlueWhiteArmy:

"Tim Howard, replacing sooner or later?"

(Complete with poll no doubt.)

Of course I read your post I just misread. Sorry about that.

Have you got any facts that Lucho Gonzalez would have actually joined us or Porto actually turned us down or are they all rumours?

Personally I thought It was a very unrealistic transfer at the time. I listened to one of the Echo podcasts around the time it came out and even the journalist(Dominic King) who wrote the article was doubtful it would happen or there was any truth in the rumours.

Have we been linked with him since?

Lucho could join a Champions League team who pay higher wages than us. He's playing Champions League football at the moment so I doubt he'd want to drop down to the Uefa cup.

Not very realistic if you ask me.

I have as much evidence as you have regarding Manny not doing the dirty on us last season

I have no evidence if Manny did or did not do the dirty on us in the summer so I don't comment on it. Until I get those facts then I'd be lying if a told you I knew anything. I have my own opinions Yes but thats all they are.

So you obviously have no evidence either?

Physical evidence? No i dont, apart from what was reported at the time

Its hard to decide if Manny did or didn't do the dirty on us he could have ,equally it might have been his agent or owners or Bill is telling porkies. which would hardly be the first time as for buying Manny well I would there may be better players out there ,but we or more importantly the team know what to expect from him another point if he did the dirty why would Moyes go back for him if you look at his record if they dont come when they have the chance its rare he gives the another opportunity .(y)

Fernandes better rated than Lucho?

Well, Lucho is probably the best player in the portuguese league. And rated ahead of Manny you can find Moutinho or Veloso or even Meireles (from FC Porto). At least they're all going to the Euro and Manny is not. Lucho is class, don't know if he would adapt to the pace of the Premiership but he's class. Not the typical argentine creative midfielder, he's more of a box to box, very clever, can score many goals and is able to fill defensive positions. I'd say he has something of Mascherano and something of Scholes.

But Manny is one to look for the future and I think he should be bought right now. Suppose we get another loan and he does an amazing season. The big clubs will be there around and even if there's a fee agreed in the loan agreement we still need to convince the player. I doubt we can sign him if the big clubs come for him, he could refuse to sign for us.

In Manny's last season in Portugal Yes I would say he was more highly rated than Lucho. I remember Manny being hot property when Benfica where in the Champions Leaugue and everyone was reported to be after him.

At the moment Lucho probably is the better player as I've said. Thats is mainly down to experience and stablity in my opinion. If Fernandes had got a club and sticked to it after he'd left Benfica then I think he'd be at a higher level than Lucho. Thats my opinion anyway.

In terms of talent and potential there's no comptetition in my opinion. Fernandes will be a better player in a few years if he settles down and finds a club that he can adapt to.

Fernandes's isn't going to the Euro's because he hasn't hardly played this year. Moutinho and Veloso have. To be honest I think Veloso, Fernandes and Moutinho are Portugal's midfield future with Ronaldo and Nani/Quesersma on the wings. All they need is a striker now.

Im getting the feeling that he's going back to Valencia, will sit on the bench and then again will get loaned out to us again in January.
