Fellaini- First impressions

It wasn't that hard I think to judge him. Ok, we are not expecting Zidane or Roy Keane, but some tackles - hell some attempted tackles would of been nice. Too many times he let people literally walk by him with the ball and he not so much as stuck a toe out.

Yes, he was up against Stevie G laaa and tried to shadow and stifle him, but when push came to shove he was left wanting when it came to one on one challenges.

I do truly believe his time will come, and yesterday may just be a minor blip, but a little effort and passion wouldn't of gone a miss during a game that he knows meant so much, not to just the team and their supporters but to the outcome of Everton's current frame of mind when it comes to the game against Leige!

If you think it is because carsley has gone you are way of the mark.
our problem is we have a back four who cannot pass the ball out of defence so when you play the likes of neville or carsley in front of them who also can't pass the gap becomes to big between defence and attack this is why we play it long. carsley was good at running around putting his foot in thats it, he never controlled a game and when in posession usually hoofed the ball staight back to the opposition. If you watched fernades last season and castillo this season they go back and collect the ball and pass it out of defence, thats what we need not carsley back. its not the payers its the manager and his tactics.

Spot on. Too many times yesterday they defended like a Sunday league pub team who knew no better than to 'hoof' the ball away - in the old 'Get rid, lad' fashion often shouted from the side lines at said games.

If you watch the likes of Arsenal and the more disciplined back fours they will at least try to find another player, rather than just by-passing the midfield totally and playing the high ball to the lone striker who is undoubtedly being out marked by up to three men. We're not asking to 'play your self out of trouble', this can lead to disastrous situations, but do try and use the alternatives that don't always result in hoofing the ball straight back to them, thus giving them the opportunity to charge at you again.

Players, formations, oppositions change - but this constant tactic is frustrating to all concerned. And when the players become frustrated, the crowd does and that seeps onto the pitch and the whole team then becomes affected. And that - leads to a long hard struggle.:(

I think Jack Rodwell looked more composed at the start of the season, fellaini looks out of his depth maybe he should of started coming on for 20 or 30 minutes to get match fit:o:o:o

You could take the worlds best player with the largest price tag ever to be recorded and surround him with what we put out and put up with yesterday -

It would only take a few minutes for him to look like he belonged in the bargain bucket in Aldi.

Yes this lad cost 15 Million but with the best will in the world he can not carry the future of Everton on his shoulders - its a team game - they all have a part to play - he and the rest of the new fellas have not got a hope in hell of settling in and showing their worth until those that are there and supposedly settled in already have pulled their fingers out and started to get the BASICS right.

One last thing from me on this subject. People are saying and so is Moyes that he's only 20, he needs time to adjust to the speed and style of the Premier league etc.. and this is why his performances are under par ( i.e yesterday)

Then, why was his best match the game at Anfield against one of the top four teams in not only England but arguably Europe. A premier league team, played at a premier league ground at premier league pace - if not quicker ? Is Belgian football normally played at a walking pace with a beach ball?

He was undoubtedly the lynch pin of that team that night and one of the reasons a lot of us got so excited at the prospect of him putting on a Blue shirt and facing down the Reds once more.

This admission by Moyes that he's not quite the real deal yet seems a bit hypocritical. Why would you pay such an exorbitant price for something not quite ready? Rooney was ready..Yet Moyes refused to play him when we needed him most. But the difference with Rooney was, he had the passion to give his best from the off ..it didn't need cultivating.

The lad will come good, eventually.I just hope it's not too late and we are not starring down the barrel of a gun during a relegation dog fight with NUFC:(

Mainly cos the RS dont play like a prem side in Europe, nor in the prem, they get 10 men behind the ball and play the most unattractive football you will ever see. Plus in Europe they stand off and dont harry ppl like they do in the prem.

He had a good game today but was hampered by a stupid early yellow card for no reason, and had no movement around him to pass to. Key example when he got the ball in the middle of the pitch a ran forward, he had no one around him to pass to so he pulled back and laid it of to Arteta.

I also dont know if he's comfortable playing more forward. He's DM so what was he doing being in the box when he had he shot cleared off the line I dont know -- and he was also involved in other attacks in the box.

Personally I thought the Neville Felliani midfield worked ok yesterday. But I would like to see him just being an all out DM and maybe push Castillo more central and forward -- he's got a bit of creativity in him.

Fellaini looked at his best alongside Arteta in the second half against Hull. We started playing football and Arteta and Fellaini where pulling the strings and interchanging passes.

I think he needs a creative player alongside him like he did with Steven Defour at Liege. He's not an out and out defensive player, that is quite obvious. He's not a disiplined player, he likes to drift and get involved.

It's quite clear to me that he is a good footballer, he's fairly intelligent, tidy in the pass and has a decent touch for such a big man. He looks more of a technical midfield than a physical midfielder in my opinion. He definatly needs to put himself about a bit more and track back.

It's down to Moyes though, does he continue to play him with a defensive midfielder or does he play him with someone similar (Osman, Arteta) etc. Someone who can attack and defend. At Home I don't see the problem, a few years ago Moyes used Cahill and Arteta in the middle of a 4-4-2 at home.

The team needs a change, the formation, tactics and personnel we are using isn't working and there is no balance. Having Pienaar and Arteta on either flank will be nice, the centre midfield needs sorting though.

A yellow card in the first ten minutes killed any influence he may have had on the game.

A bit like that Yakubu doubters this year huh?
I dont know what they expected to be honest derby games are not the norm and as he speaks no English he was not getting any advice I liked a couple of flashes that suggest he has something we will jut have to be patient and see how he progresses(y)

first impressions? besides his wicked 'bobby davro' act?

he's a tall guy, he appears able to run around. i believe he has only been in england for a month, and i believe he doesnt speak english.

baines to fellaini "push forward laaa, look to drag casto toward the by line"
fellaini to himself 'huh?'

cahill to fellaini "move your ass fat lad, your sand baggin it"
fellaini to himself 'huh?'

vaughan to fellaini "to me fella to me, the quick ball..."
fellaini to himself 'fella? didnt my agent say to call me maro?'
