Football:

Football Ramble
On The Continent
The Totally Football Show
Football Weekly

Crime:

Serial (1st and 3rd seasons. Didn't like the 2nd)
S-Town
True Crime Garage
The Teacher's Pet (Too long but a really interesting story)

Other:

How Did This Get Made (comedy film podcast reviewing cult/bad films)

‘Hardcore History’ as a few have mentioned on here.

Joe Rogan can get a bit hit and miss for me. Tend to swerve the episodes with his “comedian” friends or the tedious super athletes he has on who spend 3 hours talking about their diet and training regime.
But some of the scientific guests he has on can be interesting.

‘The Doug Stanhope Podcast’ is amazing if you can get your head around how irreverent and chaotic it can get.

Also a big fan of ‘Last Podcast On The Left’
It’s based around true crime, unsolved mysteries, serial killers etc. but hosted by 3 comedians. The recent multi-part series on Rasputin was hilariously brilliant lol
great stand up, with have a look for that

I've started listening to his 'Hardcorr History' podcast recently. It's a series on World War 1 called 'Blue Print for Armageddon'. Its excellent.

If it's still available to download look for his Ghengis Khan episodes. It's not a part of history that I'd been overly interested in beforehand but they're phenomenal and I've now got a couple of books about it as a result of the podcasts...just not had time to read them!

Doug Stanhope's is one I dip into occasionally but it's a bit of a ramble to listen to on a regular basis. The Nowhere Man & Whiskey Girl double header is unreal, horribly sad but they make it funny as well with some very dark humour.

The whole saga of them trying to get ‘Castle Rock Kenny’ (the local ex meth-head) elected as Mayor of his home town a year or so back was incredible!

But, as you say, it can get a bit much to listen to on a regular basis.
