This still doesn't leave room for some of my favourite films like Godfather and Lord of the rings.

Yep, been watching it, not bad, but there are huge chunks of cheese in it and a bit obvious, but as a TV series it's ok.

Have you read the book? I always find a huge difference if you read the book first to when you watch the film then read the book, I was 10 or 11 when I read it, knicked my sister's copy. The whole psychological part is what gets me, that angle of investigation, plus its basis in a real case.

Will have to give the series a look then.

Never read the book, wish I had because as you say, it's usually the worst sequence to watch film then read the book. I've tried before and just tend to keep remembering the film as I read, so always end up putting the book away.

Yeah, does his bit for international relations, and the family holiday is cut short - cue stony silence in the car as they drive away.
It's quite a warm ending though as his dad pulls out and shoots past the other family 's car saying "foreign rubbish" or some such.
There's a feeling of solidarity there!

There certainly isnt one in The Duellists, napoleonic wars two french soldiers duelling 5 times over a insignificant matter of honour that they both forget . Harvey Kietel brilliant as the monster of the piece, Keith Carradine brilliants as the semi hero. Rodley Scott directed based on a Joseph Conrad novella. Watch it! No nudity though

Another to add to my ever growing list of films to watch.
Don't know why got it confused with 'Women In Love' as they're different types of films.
Anyway, Women In Love (1969) - Romantic Drama -
Directed by Ken Russell, adaped from D.H. Lawrence's novel and stars Alan Bates, Oliver Reed, Glenda Jackson and Jennie Linden.
The nude fight scene I got confused about is when Bates and Reed Japanese-style wrestle.

Some great movies on that list mate! Choosing a single favorite across all genres is impossible for me. I can't even really choose a favorite among individual genres. It's like choosing amongst your children! However, what I find particularly fun about this kind of topic is how many great movies I am reminded of from everyone else's favorites.

I know. the other guys that have done these multi lists I found I have about 7/8 on DVD myself.

It didn't fit into any category there, but I love the film 'Kes' as well.

Brian Glover's PE teacher was about as stereotypical of the breed as it got in the 70s/80s, and overall a very simple, yet beautiful film.

There are so many great films. What clever people film makers are! A lot of them anyway.
I like comedy and I haven't seen much quality in that area in the last 20 years. Nothing to match Blazin' Saddles or early Woody Allen.
Or how about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?
