I honestly think he wants to be let go in the summer, receive a huge pay off, have 4 months on the beach in Dubai knowing that come November there’ll be a team at the bottom wanting a rescue job again. Actually trying to meet fan expectations here is too big a job for him and I think he’s realised that. He probably thought he’s cone in and get a few seasons of him and his mates being revered for getting us into the top half. The backlash has probably been beyond his expectation and now I think he’s looking to be paid off.

When he first came I genuinely believed he wanted a chance to manage a big club and he saw Everton as that opportunity.

I now think the agreement has been reached for him to leave at the end of this season with an agreed pay-off as we have stayed in the premiership which was probably his remit. I think the eighteen months may largely have been for the players benefit to encourage them to believe they were not dealing with a short term manager who would be gone again in six months and that an agreement was in place that both parties could review the situation at the end of the season which has now been done.

The lack of ambition from him and an almost complete failure to comment on next season or the future in general tells me he won't be here next season. Sam has been around far too long not to understand perfectly where he stands at Everton. He knows he is isn't wanted by the fans and he knows that trying to talk down expectations makes the fans more unhappy rather than more accepting.

To be honest, I can't get too wound up about Allardyce regarding yesterdays performance specifically. Maybe I'm just getting a bit bored after 4 solid months of manager bashing.

I, like many fans, called on him to be less defensive in the remaining games and, in fairness, he obliged. Schneiderlin excepted, I'd have been reasonably happy with that formation and line up in the majority of our remaining games. The fact that it was suicidal to do it against City was probably incidental if I'm honest. Injuries to Holgate and Gueye restricted his options (not that he'd have picked Holgate anyway) and whatever team/formation he picked yesterday we were always going to find it immensely tough against the best team of the premier era at the top of their game.

I didn't even find his post match comments particularly offensive when compared to recent games. No he didn't apologise for getting it wrong, or admit any guilt whatsoever in getting his tactics completely wrong yet again. But neither did he hang his players out to dry or disrespect our fan base as he normally does. (Unless there are other post match comments I've not seen yet).

This game is not going to affect our season in any way. And there are positives that we can take out of this in that Allardyce proved beyond doubt that he does not have the qualities to move us forward. For the second time this season, he has gone into a post International break match with a completely different and untried system (Arsenal away being the other), and presumably zero time working on it in training. What half competent manager would even consider doing that? I'm not saying that those particular tactics (high pressing) are wrong against a team like Man City. But even regular exponents of that game like Liverpool and Spurs would struggle to contain a team of city's quality. Was there any surprise that we got it completely wrong and City picked holes in it at will.

But even more damning was our managers ability to identify the problem during the game and change things around. It was half time before he decided to make us more compact and over an hour before he made any personnel changes. You could see the improvement immediately, although admittedly City had moved into a lower gear by that stage.

Hopefully, the powers that be at the club will now realise the need for a change of manager and will be working on replacing him in the summer as we speak.
