Family Trees

I've seen mine, very interesting stuff I must say. It does get very addictive aswell.

Well I am currently following my family name. Last night I was tracking my wife's but it was tough as both her parents are deceased and she has no grandparents to speak to, well one but she has disowned her due to her eternal grief over her son's death when Jo was 12.

But back to my family name, I have uncovered someone who may well be my Great Grandfather (my Dad's parents died in the same 3 month's I was born, so can't ask them anything - obviously) and he moved to Everton when he was 4 to live with his Uncle.

Interesting....

My wife's sister is doing theirs. She has gone back to 1495 so far. She has REALLY gotten into it. And what is even more amazing is she is doing it all from New Zealand!

I couldnt give a toss about them.

How many thousands of ancestors and did one them leave me anything?

Two fingers to you, ancestors

Having an unusual surname would make it easier to use the census records. 'Dixie' is unusual, so I suppose you'd be alright.

Anyone doing theirs?

It's pretty addictive. I feel like a right sleuth, finding out stuff about my ancestors.

I've done a bit of this Danny. Traced my family back to the 1790's. It's very time consuming though but rewarding. You can find out some things on Lancashire BMD for nothing but if your after certicates for births, marriages or deaths you have to pay for them. Theres just too many places that hold clues like church records and so on. I know my family have been in Liverpool for over 200 years but I'm struggling to go back further than that. Good luck mate.

Ray, He's Nick, not Danny (y)

Nick, maybe run any names you come across with CWGC? - Always interesting

Just to add, for novices Electoral Registers are a good source for information (though obviously this will take you back only so far and include people from a certain social class until the end of the nineteenth century, and an address is required). Probate Index books are alphabetised and can join up some of the dots, so to speak. Gores/Kelly Trade Journals are worth a look too.

Liverpool Record Office have people 'with them' (not officially employed by the LRO but contactable through them) who charge a fee for doing a search for you. And the Local History Group hold a Q&A session at Central Library where you can pick their expert brains.

I got my lot on me ma's side back to Welsh Wales at the begining of the nineteenth century. Gutted. ****** Welsh.:lol:

Have thought about investigating mine before. How do you go about it? Are most records on the internet now? Or do you have to go to Churches/libraries??

ancestry.com is a good place to look, it's expensive but if your really into that sort of thing it's got some great information.

A cousin of me investigated our family tree a few years ago. Got all the way back to 1694. Sad fact is that my family tree appears to have started in Kerkrade, the place I dispise most of all places on earth.:(

Yeah on it at the moment. I don't think it's expensive for what information is there. It can get expensive if you need to start ordering Birth Certificates and such, but then there are always other investigative methods to ascertain who is who etc....

Ha, yeah I can relate to that. On my Nan's side they are all Welsh from Llandudno. Does that mean I can play for Wales? Better than that Bellamy anyway.
