Are you complaining that football is being played right now? Yes? Then to me, something that isn't just the actual game of football is what brings you back. You can't be sat here calling it fake football and then saying "No trust me I really love the game." You can disagree as I'm sure you do, but those are two incongruous stances, imo.
I'm not sure you get to define what constitutes a football fan to be honest mate.

An average gate of 54,000 at every home game is not to shabby.
It's actually higher than you know who? lolView attachment 91185

Big difference between reported attendance and actual crowds when it comes to Man City.

Greater Manchester Police came out last season and said they are over reporting by 8-10k per game on average. Not quite sure why, but seems to be an ongoing issue at city

In the US it is common to report the tickets sold regardless of if everyone shows up. I'd guess that is there strategy.

I'm not really trying to. I'm really just trying to express my surprise at how little people seem to care about the match on the pitch compared to everything else about it. I genuinely thought the prevailing sentiment would be how great it is to see games again and instead every time someone plays the threads just moan on and on about how it isn't real or whatever else.

I agree. But all of the attendance figures quoted and published for all teams are the same. They all include season ticket holders and tickets sold that don't show up. Two of the main reasons are silly kick of times and fixture changes.

I don't think you really understand what's being said to be honest. Maybe you're not interested?

I care about the match on the pitch in general terms. I think that's pretty obvious, and it's quite offensive to the majority of fans to say that they don't. I find it hard to care much about these matches because it all feels plastic and unnecessary. The teams don't want to be there. Look at Paul Cook's comments today, that's how 90% of players and managers will feel too I bet. They've got to play because their chairmen have told them they won't get paid if they don't. The players aren't fully fit, they aren't playing with the same intensity, they've literally changed some of the rules, teams are being hamstrung by playing home games in empty stadiums. Oh and we're still in the middle of a global pandemic. On that basis, I find it difficult to care too much about the games. Maybe it will change when we start, I don't know, but right now I'm not really feeling it. I watched some of both the games last night but they just didn't do it for me.

I find your posts really bizarre though. If I went on to, say a Chicago Cubs forum, and saw that the majority of the locals, people who go to the games and who grew up immersed in baseball culture and dreaming of playing for the Cubs, saw things differently to me, I would think 'well they're the ones who matter, who am I to argue?'. It's quite telling that for you, you think it's you that's right and everyone else who's not a real fan.

The second paragraph, I don't think players not wanting to be there is entirely different from the last 10 games of most seasons myself. The intensity in those mid table games always falls off. But for my money it isn't that far off of normal. I mean Villa-Sheffield United was 0-0. That doesn't happen if the teams don't care enough to close down and defend for the whole game. City squeezed Arsenal pretty effectively too.

Paul Cook's comments are half and half to me. I agree, it is weird having a season go the way this one has and you can argue it isn't 100% fair to everyone. On the other hand I just don't see the PL as being wrong for wanting it to finish and I'm struggling to see a completely fair way to do it including tossing it out which clearly isn't fair to the RS as much as I despise them nor is it to someone like Palace who very well could go down if you do it over.

The Cubs thing: they'd be more perplexed if you went on and said you didn't care if they played and that you thought the games were fake and don't count without fans. Baseball fans are literally pleading with the owners and players to find an agreement to play the season. The percentage of those saying just void it and come back next year is almost zero. That goes for all US sports. Which is why I'm so confused here. I thought football fans were supposed to be the most passionate, yet a lot of you genuinely don't want football to be played?

I think anyone who can't watch a football match on TV with no fans in the crowd without complaining isn't a fan of football per se. A fan of the PL? Maybe. A fan of Everton? They certainly could be. But a fan of football, the game? If you can't just watch 22 guys (plus subs) play for a bit under two hours without saying this isn't real or that they are having a kickabout, I question that you just like the sport.

Spot on!

What he is trying to say mate is probably for alot of peoples preference football comes second to other aspects as to why they watch.
The actual game is a side point to e.g going the pub, spending time with your dad, yelling until your vein is poking out the side of your head, sniffing fat lines of charlie in a random bog in a pub outside the emirates etc)

You need to let the 'real fan' remark drop!
He expalined it with these people are more fans of the experience, so you could say they are Everton fans, or specific parts of football fans.
But are they fans of the actual game, stripped own. Probably not!

I've already explained why I don't agree with that though? I am a fan of football. I can watch park football with no crowd and enjoy it. PL football is not park football, it isn't the same without a crowd. Yes when I'm watching Everton the experience is a massive part of it, but that wouldn't explain why I find a game between City and Arsenal less palatable would it? My veins aren't bulging out the side of my head when i'm watching that normally so i'm not sure what relevance that has to be honest.
