FA CUP or CL?

Champions League. Yes the FA Cup would be great, especially for someone like me who hasn't seen us win anything. But the chance to play the best teams in the world at Goodison, give me that.

a trophy yes!

but just think a good run in the champs league could buy (with actual money and cuz we are a champs league team) us those players to win a lot more trophy's and a lot more top 4 finish's!

plus it makes us a lot more attractive to investors!

Good to see so many Evertonians "aiming for the stars".

I can only imagine the desire to win a poxy domestic cup ahead of the desire to play in the world's premiere cup competition is the net result of the lowering of expectations under Billy Kensh*te.

Cringeworthy. I mean, look at the following backwards logic:

Like we'd automatically win a FA Cup final but we'd automatically lose a Champions League playoff.

So, so small time. We're Everton, not Ipswich.

To be honest would rather WIN the league but was answering the question that had been asked:stick:

I'd rather be in the Champions League group stage next year mainly because of the money. Otherwise I'd rather win the FA Cup than lose in the Champions League playoff because last time I checked they don't give out trophies for 4th place in the league.

They don't give out trophies for losing the FA Cup final either.

Seriously though, we need to finish 4th before anything else - that's my opinion and there's a reason why. In the Premier League era, only Everton in 1995 and Portsmouth in 2007 have won the trophy outside the clubs who have had a Champions League run (Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool).

That's two clubs in 20 years. League success and European competition increases your profile, expands your bank balance and greatly increases the chance of domestic cup success in the future.

Typical post-Thatcherite attitudes on display here. "We want more money". That's not why I watch football - I watch in the hope (it used to be expectation) that we win a trophy.
Fourth in the league would be great, but winning something is the ultimate reason for playing or watching the game. Isn't it?

But surely the long term benefit of getting CL money would be that we can improve the squad, thus meaning we can compete more regularly with the established top 2 and are serious contenders for trophies on a more frequent basis? The offer of CL football will attract a better quality of players and again will hopefully result in trophies on a more regular basis. A top quality player wont look at us and think 'oh look they won the FA Cup last season, what an attractive proposition'.

Obviously the above relies on us getting to the group stages of the CL but I'd much prefer that to a cup at the moment.

I'd love to see us play in EU again, but we can't put up much of a showing with the limited squad we have. If the Board expanded our squad to a realistic level, capable of having a roster that would support CL, then I'd vote for that.

But, with the small minded, penny pinching standards set by the current administration, then I'll have to vote for the FA Cup & hope someone with ambition & money likes what they see.

Very short-sighted thought process and totally borne for the modern Sky era.

Football is about shiny pots.

And ask Villareal about the path being paved with gold once you reach The Promised Land of the CL. they're now skint and have win sod all. Their "achievements" amount to merely playing in a few seasons of the CL. No trophy parades, nothing of the like.

Give me hanging off a lamppost near Goodison any day of the week. There is no better feeling in the world.

What id hate is to finally get in the champions league then get properly bummed in the group stages because we arent seeded.

They don't put 'Qualifying for the Champions League' on your honours list.

People who are stating they want the CL over the FA Cup must never have experienced what its like to actually win a trophy; CL Qualification is not an achievement; winning the league or a cup final is

I'd say it's the exact opposite to be fair. The reality is that the CL brings in a loads of extra funds if you make the group stages, I'm not saying it's right or that's how it should be but that's the reality. If we had extra funds and were playing CL football we'd be able to strengthen the squad and would be a more attractive proposition to top class players, surely that itself leads to winning more cups? Don't get me wrong, I'd love us to win a cup, but if I had to pick between one or the other this season I'd go 4th every time, I appreciate that might not be your view but don't assume my view is bourne out of me being seduced by Sky.
