s not something id worry about, probably be the one and only time its an issue. They may make changes now anyway just to be safe.
They'll already be working on a new layout to remove the risk of accidentally activating it again.

An apparent freak incident but with hindsight could have been avoided.

Good for the championship as Verstappen was robbed of a certain win.

They're going to have to modify that pit entry. If his car had swerved left (Like Stroll) he'd probably be dead.

Exactly.. if they can redesign the layout to remove the risk now that its been shown as a weakness then it was demonstrably a poor piece of design in the first place.

Mercedes now taken 5 points from the last possible 88 available and sitting well behind Red Bull in the WCC. They are making far too many mistakes under the pressure of the competition.

You still wouldn't bet against them for drivers and constructors titles.

At least it's a genuine competition this season ;)

Hmm. I'm not at all sure about that now. There's obviously a long way to go and the momentum is definitely with Red Bull right now so it can seem that Mercedes are moving from one mistake to another.

But if we take it take it that Hamilton and Verstappen are evenly matched, I think Perez is going to be a considerably stronger #2 than Bottas. Bottas is badly underperforming this year just when Mercedes need him to be at his best. I don't see it improving, either, as Bottas is on his way out of the team in 2022 they're not going to put the effort in to fixing whatever problems he has with the car, whereas Perez is getting more and more settled.

Just can't see Bottas being this bad for an entire season.

He must be dreading going up against Groesjean in Hamiltons car next round.

lol

Such a range of emotions yesterday. Was delighted about the Red Bull 1-2 and thought Perez did an absolutely superb job to hold Hamilton back, and thoroughly deserved 2nd place. Then Verstappen crashed and I went into a 30 minute sulk, knowing that Hamilton would easily win with 2 laps remaining...

...Thankfully Hamilton made a silly error. Elation all around. Fully deserved for Perez, fully deserved for Vettel - and Gasly fought extremely hard for that 3rd place with some ballsy racing with Le Clerc.

Few things that come out of that race:

- Vettel finally back? We've seen glimpses but his confidence seems to be growing
- Where will Gasly end up? He's rocking the Alpha Tauri (and I love them as a team) but realistically they can't improve much more as a sister team surely. Gasly is proving he deserves a big seat
- Finally over for Bottas? I do feel sorry for him. He's a good driver but he just doesn't take his opportunities at all, and yesterday was probably his worst...
- Move over Raikonnen - Giovanazzi is taking over? Yes Raikonnen finished ahead of him, but Giovanazzi had an absolutely superb race.
- Pirelli - time to move on? As fun as the typre blow outs where, they wen't on a 200 mph straight. Imagine if they had gone in the braking zone at the end of that straight etc... It's really not good enough. You want tyres to fall of the cliff, but failures out of nowhere is unacceptable.

Also special mention to Schumacher who called Mazepin out on the final lap for being an absolute moron. I find it absolutely hilarious that Schumacher had a pitstop, then had to be wheeled back to the pit, to have another pitstop and he STILL ended up 60 seconds ahead of Mazepin in the race.

Kevin Estre = King of Nordschleife. P11 to P1 in one and half laps in tricky conditions. Only driver in the field who had the balls to start the race on slicks... at a 24hr Endurance race which is all about avoiding drama this was very very ballsy.

What do we actually think of Russell?

For me, during races he's never really impressed at all. It's all very well and good being great in qualifying, and having a dominant performance in a superior car (once) but Latifi has looked better in the races by far...

Has Latifi ever finished ahead in a race they both finished without incident? Much like LeClerc GR seems to be able to outqualify the car. Is anyone casting doubt on Charles cos he went backwards in the last race?

Agree, despite his qualifying performances, his race pace is pretty average.

I've never really seen extensive analysis on his driving / driving style, but for me he's another Jenson Button, decent (probably more so than Bottas) but no real x-factor like Hamilton, Max and arguably Leclerc.
