Wasn't the brakes, as they had enough bite in them to lock the tyres. He just went in too fast for the grip the tyres had in them. We know that the Merc is slower to get the tyres into the right window than other cars.
He had the lead. Race was basically his. Didn't look like he broke any latter than the guys around him.
Best british driver I've ever seen. One of, maybe the, best ever. Has set records that even the likes of Verstappen will struggle to get near. Bigger fan of Lando and Russell (and Albon) tbh. Up and coming youngsters with loads of talent and lots of personality. What are your views on Hamilton buddy? Big fan?

Its already been confirmed it was because he pushed a button by accident during an upshift. From what's been explained so far the button he pushed automatically moves the brake bias forward by a sizeable amount which increases brake distance as well as having the side effect of less pressure being required to lock the fronts. If you don't know its turned on you are going to have a massive lockup as you are braking with the presumption the brake bias is much further to the rear.
The explanation makes sense as it wasn't a normal looking lockup and he didn't brake late as he had no need to due to already being alongside Perez.
Yeah, makes sense. It's a clear driver error though, and has to be said a pretty silly one that if everyone in that team has done their job properly shouldn't have happened.
Such a shame because his restart was great and he put himself in the perfect position to go on and win. They found a cut on Hamilton’s tyre after the race was red flagged suggesting he could have had similar failure

Hamilton "lucky" to avoid similar failure to Verstappen as Pirelli discover cut tyre
Lewis Hamilton was potentially at risk of a tyre failure similar to that which put two other drivers out of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.www.racefans.net
Its a driver error but a pretty random/unlucky one. Not much anyone at Merc could do to prevent it given the period of time between him accidentally turning it on and braking was a couple or so seconds.
Only comfort he can take from it is that at least it wasn’t a case of bottling it, no mental weakness... just an unfortunate case of fat fingers.

Great race - I'd say it almost makes up for the tedium of the Monaco race....almost.Race of the season for me that. Full of drama and class racing. Makes it better when I really like all three of the podium.
I don't think you can say that sort of thing is bad luck. For something designed with as much precisiom and effort as the steering wheel and the cockpit layout of an F1 car, there should bloody well be failsafes to make it impossible to accidentally hit the wrong setting. I'm amazed that it isn't feedback to the pit wall about what brake and engine settings he is in and someone monitoring it like a hawk.
It's not bad luck, its just unpreparedness.
