After how many years of tedious dominance? They were changing regulations every season to try and hobble Schumacher.

Banned DAS. Banned party qualifying engine mode. Changed how the car can generate downforce from the floor. And that's just the stuff they have changed in the last couple of years.

There was a complete design change before the 2017 season and next year (should have been this year) too.

They have been doing it longer than just this year thogh, but FIA was no different to Red Bull when they were tediously winning everything I suppose.

I don't really see them getting the benefit of leniency out of the Stewards though, Hamilton has some shocking penalties down the years.

It's Ferrari that get free reign to cheat mind, just look at their dodgy interupter engine the other year, won them Grand Prickes, loads of constructors points. The FIA just told them not to do it again, no punishment and they could keep all their points and money that they'd illegally won.

Blah blah blah. Frozen formula with Mercedes holding an almost insurmountable engine advantage. Imagine a Red Bull with a Mercedes engine!

Seems to me they have done the old tennis “shadow ban.” Ferrari have had to eat it up for a few seasons now due to their cheating.

Blah blah is the facts mate, if you can't handle the heat stay out the kitchen.

Is it Mercedes fault that they developed the best engine for that many years? That engine was in other cars also and Honda appears to be the quickest at the moment.

It’s not the quickest. Red Bull have just designed a good car that outperforms the engine.

in what way? They've changed the car design spec for this year just to hobble the Merc.

This is a popular myth. No one knew how the new floor regs would effect the pecking order prior to testing. There are Interviews with James Allison from last season talking about how they don’t know who It will effect the most. If you google for articles prior to testing they basically all said the same thing. There were arguements for how it could both favour and hurt teams with low AND high rake philosophies.

It was only during and after testing that it became clear that it was going to have a worse effect on low rake cars like Merc and Aston Martin.

So you are saying that brand new restrictions were brought in with the FIA absolutely clueless about what the changes would mean and what would happen?

They were brought in for other reasons, not in an attempt to slow down one car. As I said James Allison is on camera with Ted Kravitz last season talking about how no one knows who will be at an advantage/disadvantage because of the new floor regs. You won’t find an article pre testing talking about how it’s designed to screw Merc because the assumption was it could negatively hamper either of team.

Tsunoda was holding firm against Hamilton on the straight with DRS enabled. That Honda is not inferior to Mercedes anymore.

At Silverstone Lewis went for a lower downforce package which is the only reason he was able to close in on Max there.

Any regulation change is likely to hamper the dominant team most though. Or should I say they have most to lose from any potential change anyhow.
