Extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of the Everton fanbase....

This. Under Martinez we had Deulofeu, Lukaku, Barkley and Stones looking like 4 of the brightest young players in the prem. I knew they would leave eventually, and in the case of Lukaku/Stones I have no real issue.

But to let Ross throw his career away as he has done, and to see Deulofeu go to bloody Watford - and play better football than we now do? Unforgivable.
Everton ffs.

The 'Fab 4' who aren't actually anywhere near as good as our fanbase like to make out except for Lukaku.

Those players weren't good enough to take us to the next level (other than Lukaku). Haven't paid much attention to Stones since he's gone, but sounds like he's struggling again and he struggled with actual defending whilst at Everton.

Everton are 6th in the form table since Allardyce joined

This is a year in which it looks like traditionally solid premier league sides - Southampton, Stoke and West Brom will go down

Things could certainly have turned out worse for us given the terrible start. Allardyce has made a couple of good signings in Walcott and Tosun. A couple more good signings and we could be well placed for next season. He has a good group of support staff

The playing style is not always the most attractive, but you get the sense that with the right support, Allardyce can deliver solid results next year. This is certainly better than the days under Martinez when he refused to address the defensive problems...

Trying to get my head round why the seeming widespread dislike for him is so extreme given the results he's delivered and potential to improve next year - seems like an irrational ground swell of negativity with more getting drawn on to the band waggon......

There aren't that many realistically available better options out there (perhaps the experienced / proven at the top level Benitez or Ancelotti - certainly not the unproven Silva or Fonseca) - people could do worse than get behind Allardyce and decide he's earned the chance to show what he can do next season
I’d like to know what solid results next year means.
The only goal for me is number 1, champions, cups, the champions league, not to qualify, but to actually win it.
We need someone who will plan for all this in the next few seasons, I don’t think Sam will.
By the way, I think Sam has done the job he was meant to do, and he does deserve some credit for that, but he’s definitely not long term.

I guess some supporters are still struggling with the concept of abject performances and not necessarily results as the problem. People are bored to death and are sick of him insulting our intelligence and more. There is no way he can continue if next season is to be anything but toxic and who wants that.

No it needs a fresh start all round and we need to hope that the DoF and manager that come in are a lot more astute in their signings. I reckon Sam might spend well but it won't change the on field performances because he isn't wired that way, he had that opportunity to show otherwise and hasn't taken it.

We took 4 points from 14 games against the top 7 this year. That statistic should be pinned up in Finch farm and the players made to look at it every time they walk through the door.

One draw every 3 and a half games.

And some think this manager is the man to take us forward????

The People’s Club; know our place and accept mediocrity

The above is why we’ll never succeed, our fanbase are happy just to be in the PL

Couldn't disagree more mate. Whether they will make it or not remains to be seen, but all 4 certainly had and still have the tools at their disposal.

Barkley - regular minutes in a settled side
Deulofeu - again, regular minutes in a settled side, and some fitness work (badly)
Stones - pretty sure he'll look world class under Pep, he did before his injury. Still incredibly young for a centre half

If they had come through under a Pochettino or Fergie, they'd all be very highly rated right now.

Barkley - hasn't improved enough since he first broke through. Shirks responsibility in big games.
Deulofeu - had a run of great assists for half a season after his return. Since then has done nothing of note.
Stones - Was seen as having a lot of potential but regularly made mistakes at Everton, including switching off on set pieces and generally not being good enough defensively getting exposed time and time again. Cost us with mistakes on the ball too.

None of them are top players in their position. Stones could possibly improve the most but I don't think he will be given enough games to cut out his mistakes and work on the weaker aspect of his game at the club he is at currently.

I’m no fan of Allardyce, especially in regards to his style of play. But we accepted Moyes for over a decade so we can’t complain now that the media think we have ideas slightly above our standing. We’ve done nothing to actually prove we’re a big club for years. People are acting now like Sam Allardyce is the first time we’ve gone against our club motto simply because they dont like the man. His appointment is practically an inevitable outcome of the last twenty years (if not longer). If anything I’m surprised it hasn’t happened sooner.
we accepted Moyes because he got us to 5th 3 times and 4th once.

Allardyce finished 6th with Bolton during the same period. And I would argue that Bolton didn’t play the worst stuff at that time under him. Similarly we didn’t exactly play fantastic stuff under Moyes, but as you’ve just stated, we accepted him because he got us some good league finishes. Good, not great. With nothing tangible to show for it after over a decade with him as manager. They’re cut from the same cloth.

They did, it was just hidden by the odd flashes of brilliance from Ockocha and the other “flair” players.

His philosophy is, and always was, lump it forward and pick up the second ball in the final 3rd.

Fair comment and I need to be clear that I don’t like Allardyce and it’s not my intention to be seen to be defending him. My issue is that we have very recent form of accepting a manager for a large period of time who did not play much better football than him, had a similar negative attitude in games against the “big sides” and at the end of the day won sweet FA. Yet because we have Allardyce in charge all of a sudden people are concerned about our style of play and upholding the standards of our club? Standards that haven’t been enforced since when? And style of play didn’t exactly help Martinez did it?

People act like it’s the media who belittle us and mock us for having ambition when the club have done a fantastic job of creating that narrative for decades now all by themselves. Look at how long we kept Moyes, those extra seasons we gave Martinez when it was getting worse and worse, how long we dithered after sacking Koeman to eventually see us land Allardyce. People act like we’re not shown any respect anymore and it’s all “kopite propaganda” and because we’re not part of sky’s big six we’re irrelevant. We could do with respecting ourselves first. Plenty of pundits were bigging us up last summer and look how our season has gone. Is that the media’s fault too?

Allardyce’s appointment is a culmination of all the bad decisions and coasting along that’s been going on for years now. You reap what you sow.

I totally agree, and this comes back to the other things I’ve said regarding the “people’s club”

That has morphed us into an acceptance of utter mediocrity, no matter what the big clubs do we’ll show faith with our players and managers as long as they keep our head above water in the PL

The club have latched into this, it’s brainwashed fans, media etc that plucky little Everton do things differently, we stick by our managers through thick and thin because we’re lucky to even be in the PL.

The club is rotten from the core, we have Everton fans who have seen the club win leagues and compete with the best resorting to accepting this, they believe the media hype and insecurity. Hence why we have this fat slug

And to top it off you have Kenwright coming out and telling the world he signed Rooney and none of our purchases will be sold; this speak volumes and highlights who is truly making the decision at the club.

Our fans need a wake up call, they want to compete then they need to rebel and let the board know that it is us, not them, who keep this club ticking over and relevant.

But we won’t do that, because on the other side of the fence will be the lads shouting “kopite behaviour”
