A sad indictment of EFC in this City nowadays is if you look on oddschecker the bookies have us second favourites to beat relegation haunted Southampton at home on Saturday @13/8 best odds ,whilst them across the park are shorter odds than that @6/4 to win the Champions league.
We are poles apart now yet some think it's good enough.
If so we need to change our motto to ' anything will do as long as we stay afloat '
'What will Everton do next?' is a general question that experience tells us is easily answered; that answer being 'disappoint'. Thus, for those Evertonians quite keen on Soton being relegated (eg @ijjysmith ), Everton will, in giving them a life-line of 3 points this weekend, disappoint that desire. For those wondering about any new managerial appointment, you can rest assured Everton will disappoint. Any important, 'must win' game...disappoint. The new stadium?...disappoint.
Is this being a little negatively fatalistic of me? Well, possibly a little. Everton does put on a good Blue Chrimbo, and to see Capt Jags in his blue Santa outfit, and Bainsey, Wazza, Tubby Ashley et al all dressed up as blue elves visiting the infirmed and the homeless of the community, does engender huge pride in our giant club.
But outside of Blue Chrimbo, as an Evertonian, it pays to gird your loins because figuratively speaking, at all times, some great big hob-nailed boot is poised out there, about to kick you in the plums. Yes we feel the pain of it, but experience has taught us to just suck it up and shuffle on toward where the next boot is poised...and the next disappointment...
...Everton that.
NSNO
First sentence says it all. Evertonians are tired of people looking at 6th as acceptableEverton are 6th in the form table since Allardyce joined
This is a year in which it looks like traditionally solid premier league sides - Southampton, Stoke and West Brom will go down
Things could certainly have turned out worse for us given the terrible start. Allardyce has made a couple of good signings in Walcott and Tosun. A couple more good signings and we could be well placed for next season. He has a good group of support staff
The playing style is not always the most attractive, but you get the sense that with the right support, Allardyce can deliver solid results next year. This is certainly better than the days under Martinez when he refused to address the defensive problems...
Trying to get my head round why the seeming widespread dislike for him is so extreme given the results he's delivered and potential to improve next year - seems like an irrational ground swell of negativity with more getting drawn on to the band waggon......
There aren't that many realistically available better options out there (perhaps the experienced / proven at the top level Benitez or Ancelotti - certainly not the unproven Silva or Fonseca) - people could do worse than get behind Allardyce and decide he's earned the chance to show what he can do next season
And it even ends with Sam Allardyce's initials....I'll have to change my signature 'NSNO' sign off in posts to 'AWDALAWSA'
Everton's capacity to disappoint is like a dirty great drift net...it captures everythingIt’s so true though. We all have little things I bet, that we’d like Everton to do. Obviously we all want the same main things, win stuff, beat the rs etc...
But personal things, like Saints will definitely beat us on Saturday. They’ll let me down. I know it already.
Deulofeu being my ideal everton player in every single way....except somehow not being good enough or made of gummy bears.
I’m sure we all have individual things where they let us down. As well as the main things.
...' anything will do as long as we've Sam Allardyce '...I like it!And it even ends with Sam Allardyce's initials.
certainly would agree - you need a solid foundation to build upon and perhaps that was the error of 2017/18 that we started building without a solid foundation that could have resulted in some issues (not using the R word). However, once you have the solid foundation you then need to start building to get better, not to have a more solid foundationAn important point subtly made! I don’t hate Sam, but I don’t believe that having fulfilled his assigned role that we as fans don’t have the right to expect better next term. The creeping anxiety for me is that the fans needs for hope/pride/progress are often in opposition to management’s desire for dependability. Our needs have taken a real beating this season!
