Ex-players who you miss seeing in the Royal Blue

My earliest memories are of the 84/85/86/87 era. When comparing that team to the one ten years later, in the mid-nineties, it's scary to see how the quality dropped.

Southall
Gary Stevens
Kev the Rat
Psycho Pat
Reidy
Tricky Trev
Sheedy
Lineker

I'd have all these back. And it's not like the rest of the squad from back then weren't fabulous either, i just have stronger memories of these lads.

From other more recent eras:

Gough
Hinchcliffe
Kanchelskis
Limpar (when he could be arsed!)
Rooney
Fernandes

The likes of Speed, Dacourt, Materazzi, McCall, Gravesen and Carsley all bring cheerful memories to mind, but I don't know if they were really genuine class players or not. Time is playing tricks with my memories!

It's a sad statement of Everton's last 30 or so years that the likes of Tim Cahill and Landon Donovan get mentioned in this thread.

Anyway for me it would be Southall and Lineker. The only two world class players I've seen in Royal Blue.

Actually scrub that I'd add in the young Rooney. Crikey he was exciting.

And maybe Big Duncan of the days he was up for it!

I know where you are coming from and that too many 'good' players get labelled as World Class. But you've got to add Kanchelskis to that list?

Not kanchelskis?

I really liked the look of some of the players we had when we had somewhat of a false dawn after the cup win...

Hinchcliffe's corners...
Speed
Parkinson
Etc etc etc

One thing though, and im sure ive asked it before on here....we had Kanchelskis and Limpar on the flanks...

Then suddenly limpar was flogged to birmingham for £150k. He didnt seem past it to me...anything happen there?

West, Wright, Kendall Labone, Harvey,Husband,Ball, Royle, Hurst and Morrissey, couldn't think of the left back, was going to put Wilson but I think he had gone by then.

Royle wouldn't play him after Terry Darracott grassed him up for saying he hoped ?Everton lose after he was dropped at
Blackburn, so Joe cut his nose off to spite his face.

For me Cahill, he may not have been the best player I ever saw live (although he was very underrated, you just need to see his goal against Netherlands to see that).

You just knew that whenever he was on the pitch we had a chance.

since i started going in 1990, i remember watching Kanchelskis and thinking "how the [Poor language removed] is he playing for us". I wish we could have him back in blue in his prime. I still wonder how we signed him.
