Ex player series Alan Whittle

I remember Whittle scoring at Palace when he was key in winning us the League.

He had loadsa talent and should have been around a lot more. Did not know about any naughtiness and school girls
but knowing Catterick a little I bet there was hardly anything in the story.

It wasn't the story it would be now with naked selfies etc ( we can hope). It made the papers for a day or 2, even back then it wasn't a 9 day wonder. But in the bringing the club into disrepute stakes it was enough for 'Haitch'

I always liked his back headers at the near post from corners......
Jimmy husband was great at that, started off at the near post he was so fast he used to run foreheads to back he'd flick it into the middle of the area - now we can,t get it past the first defenders most times!

I loved Jimmy Husband, pure class winger.......

I loved him. I had an Everton subbuteo team, I scraped the paint off the head of one player and painted it yellow, so it could be him...

I did that too with my Subbuteo players. Painted a beard on Bob Latchford and Cliff Marshall's skin brown!

I'm pretty sure that anybody my age just can't help but burst into song when recalling that great team
(I was 15/16 and loving every minute of the Gladys Street)

Gordon West, Tommy Wright, Sandy Brown, Howard Kendall, Brian Labone, Colin Harvey, Jimmy Husband, Alan Ball
John Hurst, Johnny Morrissey,
Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick

Keith Newton replaced Sandy, others such as Tommy Jackson and Roger Kenyon also played a part, but it was Alan Whittle who kept the momentum going by coming in and scoring some crucial goals.
For that short period, he was my second favourite player (after Bally obviously)
Unfortunately it was a bit of a purple patch and he couldn't maintain it.

Where is Joey Royle ?

.....it was almost a cameo Everton career as far as I recall, right player at the right time to see us over the line in 1970. Trebilcock's 66 cameo was shorter but also won us a major trophy. Whittle was a 'busy', bright and pacey sort with an eye for a goal. I particularly remember the floaty chip he scored at Anfield.

I think he scored 11 vital goals on that run in but never really hit the heights after that although there was reported shenanigans off the pitch.

I was told by a Blue of a certain vintage that it involved underage girls at a party for Roger Kenyon and that is also cost David Johnson his Everton career. Johnson left the club in Nov 72, and Whittle in Dec 72, both unexpectedly it would seem.

Jack in the box I was in the Kop fantastic game!
So was my dad!!! Said he would never go again to Anfield because it could not get any better than standing on the Kop chanting Champions champions!! Got his arm twisted to go again the next season...... THAT was absolutely his last visit!!
