I get laughed at or given an odd stare here in the states when I tell ignorant people that I support Everton.

I suppose use Everton fans need a sense of humor living under shadows of Liverpool FC.

I'm also from the United States and experience the same thing. But I feel as though I began supporting Everton for reasons that transcend the glory of winning a trophy.

What I've always found interesting with the United, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc. supporters over here is that so few bother watching the matches. They might if its a derby or maybe a big Champions League match, but so many just wear the kit and spout off when their club wins something worthwhile.

For me, watching Everton is something I crave week to week, even now in the team's sorry state. I guess I'd rather be laughed at for supporting a club passionately than supporting one only when they win.

I've been following Everton for a similar time (and in a similar way, being an OS fan), but for me, the discontent at the moment is the effort and not results. I think as a fan, you're passionate and excited when the team's having a red hot crack, regardless of the final score. That's not what's happening at the moment.

Wouldn't change it for the world either. Seeing other mates with no connection to a club geographically "chose" a team like Chelsea, a title becomes the expectation and their experience as a fan becomes a constant sense of relief rather than joy when they knock off a team.

We've questioned the training sessions and the fitness... no wonder we're that bad, if the team dietitian is feeding them curry before a big game.

Mostly what I find is that the supporters of the "larger clubs" here are simply shallow people. Harsh to generalize but that's what I've run into in the majority. Technically the Chicago bar I went to was just a footy pub but unofficially an Everton pub. The other teams would show up once or twice every couple of months but there would be plenty blues every match day. They even took to showing our games in midweek on delay because the interest was there.
