City's channel is gold, I absolutely love behind the scenes stuff, it could be Jimmy Martin picking lint out of his bellybutton and i'd still be glued to the screen.

I've brought this up before, it's important. I work in this area and it's not difficult to become a youtube partner. Even if everton were to use some of the footage they take, it's good just to have a presence. Youtube is owned by google and connected to google+. Now, although no one uses this social network yet, it is very important from a SEO point of view. If the club are relying on the internet for global promotions and sales, they need to be on top of stuff like this.
I work in this area too. We were told by a major SEO firm in NYC (ergo one of the biggest in the world) to remove our videos from YouTube and host on our domain. They think it's better for SEO to host on site. We disagree but there is a line of thinking (which may be shared by the people doing this for Everton) that hosting on your domain is better.

... and just to back up what Ruairi said about Google+ I agree: it doesn't matter that nobody uses it because Google uses it (in their various ranking algorithms). So you do need Google+.

I know it doesn't bother alot of people but it annoys me as it doesn't take much to get this kind of thing right.
I think you need YouTube too but just for balance there is a line of thinking that it's better to swerve YouTube for a variety of reasons. So we may still disagree with their logic but it may not be coming from a place of ignorance but just a different line of thinking.

The cost to have a setup similar to City's is tiny relative to our wage bill, you need a room at the training ground, a few good cameras, a few computers and a few (reasonably low paid) staff, and it's not like it'd be at any significant extra cost, we already have Everton TV (which is pretty poor).

I messaged the marketing team at everton yesterday to see if they could create a youtube account. I also said that it would be great marketing and also many everton fans would enjoy it. They have not replied yet but when they do I will say on the forum!

Agree.

The video quality is poor, the flash player they use is terrible, and the layout is poor as you say.

With YouTube, everyone knows how to use it, you can upload HD footage, they host it for you (saves a lot of £), and people can share video's easily. It's a no-brainer.

Yup, I definitely take your point, I imagine, as you say, the youtube decision is a well considered one. They want to drive as much traffic to the site as possible and by keeping all their content on the site, they can do that.
I definitely think a presence on google+ is necessary but a limited youtube presence cant harm. At least try it with the content they already create, stick some links to the online store on the channel and see what level of traffic it generates.
They seem to have different levels of what footage goes on the site generally and what is in the restricted everton TV section. For example the 'Coleman thanks Moyes and Neville' was on the log-in section of the site on Sunday and is now on the general site, what harm in adding another level and add it to a youtube channel archive next week when the interest has passed. I will also admit that I rarely log in to everton tv and when it asks, I click away because I cant be bothered trying to figure out which password I might have used for that account. I'd say I'm not the only one.
Well done on contacting the club. Although some might find these kind of threads boring, this is the kind of thing that fans can actually change pretty quickly.
